Does anyone have a Flatbed Microwave oven?

Never heard of that.
They've been out for a while.. about 3 years or more..

They differ in that they don't have a turntable, so the heating is much more uniform.. and of course they're very much easier to clean.

I've read all good reviews about them, so since I I was thinking of changing my microwave oven I've been considering the flatbed..

My Panasonic has the inverter cooking she was raving about. Imo, I wouldn’t want a microwave without a turntable. I could be wrong but it seems like a gimmick to sell us something we already have. I have no issues cleaning my MW. Just take out the turntable and wash it if something spills over.

To be real, trays are easy enough to remove and clean. I wouldn't waste money replacing my traditional microwave for a flatbed one. I agree with @Jules, just something new to take peoples' money. I also wouldn't want one without a turntable. Been there, done that....no more.
what do you mean ''been there done that ''.... flatbed microwaves are new !

if you do , what is your view ?
I'm thinking of replacing my traditional MW with a flatbed ... same brand as I have now...
I only know of a flatbed truck/trailer. But I'll have to be buying a new nuker within a very short time... if I could find a smaller one, that would be great, so I'll be interested to find out what a flatbed is and if it would work for me.
EDIT: Just read the rest of the posts here... a product worth looking into, yep.

I have no issues either with washing the turntable.. however, why have extra parts if they're not needed ?

In the early 1960s, my uncle had the first microwave oven that I ever saw. It was built into a decorative brick wall and did not have a turntable. The rotating turntable came about in the mid-60's (Radar Range?) and was added to promote "even heating". Sounds like someone is trying to promote old technology as being "new & improved".

I'm not intending to be mean, just looking forward.
I wouldn't think of replacing a working appliance with the energy costs in the UK. I would save the money to stay a little warmer in the winter. I hate being bone cold.
Winter will come again and I don't see any changes is the world that would make heating and electric any more affordable than last winter.

In the earlier days of microwaves I think it was on Sharp brand that had turntables because they held a patent on it. Our 1st 2 microwaves were GE, no turntable, and each lasted about 10 years. Yes, one had to turn the food once maybe twice, but it didn't seem to be a problem.

After those two there was a Panasonic, lasted about 3 days past the warranty, same for its successor, and LG, then gave up buying bigger and "better" units and just went for cheap ones from a big box store. Lived here going on 14 years now on our 3rd one. Since they're cheap ones, we're still money ahead from buying the "better" ones. Just use smaller containers to cook in. Those old GE's were the best all of them.

Actually not, at least in US. I thought i remembered the first microwave ovens i saw as being flatbed so did some searching. They were apparently used in restaurants and institutions, perhaps for quick defrosting? But then as they were becoming used in private homes the turntables were added.

I mostly use them to reheat coffee and certain leftovers. Daughter for the 'Tai Pei' brand meals. Both of us tend prefer things actually stewed, simmered, sauteed or broiled.

But now i'm curious and may experiment because it seems to me one could simply remove the wheel mechanism, flip the turntable upside down and it would emulate a flatbed. My flat bottomed coffee cup sat well despite the raised thing on bottom of turntable that fit over mechanism that actually turns it. Next time i have leftovers to heat will experiment with those. But i didn't notice any difference in my coffee.

To each their own, if you're buying a new one anyway and think flatbed 'better', go for it.

We had a Sharp™ flatbed m/w earlier this year. Can't remember the exact model. We found it took a long time to heat anything properly and we eventually returned it and got a full refund. I can't say it was typical of the brand -- we might have simply received one inadequate example -- but it deterred us from trying another flatbed.

Eventually we bought a smaller 700 watt conventional m/w and have been delighted with it.

If it ain't broke don't toss it...my 2 microwaves (one large & one small) are working great.
Like you, I replace appliances when they're on their last legs or have already died and aren't fixable or aren't worth fixing. Not before.

My previous MW died and I commented to DD that I was about to shop MWs. She told me not to do that - she had one that she and DSIL bought when they moved into an apartment, but couldn't use in the house they bought two years later because the kitchen has one built into the range hood.

She kept her old MW in a plastic bag in the garage rafters for ten years knowing it would be useful someday. So I scored a free MW and she got more room in her rafters.

Like others here, my first MW (1980) had no turntable so we turned the food halfway through. That MW was plenty spendy - over $400 in 1980 - the equivalent of $1525 now.
