I'm thinking of buying one. If you own an electric lawn mower, what brand is it and how long have you owned it?

Do you really like it, or have some complaints? Please share with us the Pros and Cons of using an electric mower......thanks!

I have EGO twin blade, self propelled mower. This is my third summer with it. Absolutely love it  No complaints at all; only applause šŸ‘. The one I have is 2nd to their top of the line model so it wasn't cheap but honestly, it's the best money I've ever spent on yard equipment. It mows wonderfully through even that thick grass we get early in the season and just keeps going.

No maintenance other than blade sharpening once a year or so. Just drop the battery in and go! Came with battery and charger.
Mine is I believe a 56 volt battery and fully charged, I can mow both front & back year without recharging (about 5,000 sq ft).
The battery charges from drained to full charge in an hour. It's a lot lighter than my old gas mower & quieter too.

Storage is a breeze as it folds up into a nice compact cube in about 10 seconds. The self propell unit has about 10 speed adjustments and they even though to put in propell buttons on both sides of the handle so you can take one hand off the handle when mowing close to a bush or tree. Has 6 mowing height adjustments with a single lever one one side of the mower casing.

Here's a couple of pics:

Cuts beautifully!

As I said, they aren't cheap but you won't regret what you get, that I can promise you.
Read some internet reviews on the EGO mowers. You'll find they're mostly all comlimentary.

I have a cordless electric lawnmower.. I've had it for many years... I've never had to replace the battery in all those years and I use this lawnmower every week for 8 months of the year...it's a Bosch... and only once in it's long life has it needed the blades sharpened..

of course there will be a much more modern version of it now if I was to replace it.. but it's been a great mower...

Cordless Homelite, almost 20 years old. Replaced the pair of 12 volt batteries within its removable 24v module once, will soon need to do that again. Older lead-based gel cell technology.

Works great for a smaller lawn. Very long-lasting mower. Minimal maintenance aside from battery replacement and blade sharpening. No cord to manhandle or run over and sever, no need for outdoor power outlets. Very quiet. When new, little kids in the neighborhood gawked at my "atomic lawn mower." :ROFLMAO:

Have an 80Volt Kobalt mower I bought at Lowes about 3yrs ago.
No problems with it at all. I have 1/3 acre and it handles that with power still left
Any property larger than that, I'd recommend a gas mower or a riding mower
... or have a spare battery on hand, charged up and ready to go

I don't think Kobalt still makes the 80Volt model, so there's that
But the bottom line is I have had good experience with an electric mower
Pull back the handle, push the button and GO. Easy Peasy

On another note, I have a 20Volt battery powered line trimmer and blower too
The trimmer is fine for about half an hour and meets my needs. The blower is too light duty for much
They came as a set from Black + Decker. Had to replace the battery after 5 or 6 years.

I don't have a lawn anymore, but in the past I had a Greenworks mower. The big pro for me was not having to breathe fumes. There weren't any cons other than it wasn't powerful enough to mow 'prairie'.

My one SIL uses a Greenworks mower (metal body) for her little yard. She's on a 1/4 acre lot that includes house/drive/patio sitting on. It does a nice job, but she had to get a second battery to get it done in one go.

We have a self propelled battery run greenworks 80 volt lawn mower. It comes with 2 blades, including a blade for mulching.

It’s super light weight and has 2 batteries so you can charge one while using the other.

It has a grass collector for if you’d like to keep the clippings to use in compost.

It mowes evenly and effectively with ease and proficiency. It’s very quiet compared with a gas mower. It goes up hills , easily and downhills just fine.

It does take practice to learn when to slow it down and speed up especially with hilly landscape which we have.

It’ is an excellent mowing machine.
Try and get it on sale.its regular price is &799
but you should be able to get it for as low as $599 at places like Costco.

Cons- because it’s battery run, it doesn’t leave that fleshly cut smell you get with gas powered motors but it also doesn’t produce as much chlorophyll either.

Pro: Not as much green on the shoes.
Better for the environment
No gas smelling fumes
Instant start every time
Lightweight
Professional results

@SeaBreeze, there are many options for an electric mower and they are all a huge improvement over gas mowers. I have heard nothing bad about any of the popular brands. Ryobi is another popular electric mower brand that people seem to love. Greenworks as mentioned by @PeppermintPatty; Ego as I noted earlier and there's others as well I'm sure.

The thing you need to do is just decide if you want/need self propelled or not and I would also recommend models with the two blade cutting system - they just cut better, especially if one of the blades is a multching blade, which I have on mine. Returns fine grass cuttings to the lawn. Kind of a self fertilization while you cut!

Good luck in your quest. I'm sure you'll be pleased no matter which brand you buy ;)

Generally speaking we leave the mulch on the grass we mow but lately my husband is REALLY into gardening which includes composting all biodegradable ingredients. He’s picked up a ton on lobster and crab compost, which is great for the garden; he even bought worms to add.

Thank you. I've never bagged my clippings, just used the mulch. We had a self propelled gas mower many years ago, and I remember not liking it because of all the times I had to go backwards to mow near trees, etc. I think just a lighter weight machine will be much better than what I have now. Not having to pull that cord every time, load the gas, oil, etc. sounds very good.

I don't know if the electrics are good on rough lawns like mine, lots of bumps and holes, dropped pinecones, etc. I do appreciate all the good information I'm getting from the nice folks here.

A gas mower is MUCH more powerful than ANY electric mower
With the electric mower, you won't break up pine cones as well or mulch up much pine straw and leaves
When any of that needs to be done, I drag out the gas mower

That said, the electric mower cuts grass just fine, even revs up in thicker grass
I do have to keep a better eye on blade sharpness with the electric than the gas powered beast

Any mower; gas or electric, will be jumping around a bit on rough ground. My front lawn is like that but so far ... nothing has shaken loose  I think the issue with mine is I have a good size maple tree on my front lawn. It sucks up every bit of moisture there is in summer. I have a hard time keeping grass growing under it for that reason.

My lawn guy uses a battery powered lawn mower, but I don't know how he likes it or what brand it is. All I know about it is that it is a zero turn and my home in PA sits on a 1 acre lot and he finishes in about an hour and that includes the edging. The Gardner does the weeding and the pruning once a month. Both work for the same company.
