Donald Sutherland was one of a whole generation of talented Canadian born actors who emerged in the early to mid 1950's . Amongst his contemporaries the names Leslie Neilsen, Bruno Gerusi, Lorne Green, Lloyd Bochner, Christopher Plummer, Gordon Pinsent, William Shatner, and Walter Pidgeon stand out. All of the above cut their teeth on CBC radio doing dramas and comedy programs, and many made it to doing classical stage plays including Shakespearian works. Lorne Green was a long time CBC radio news reader before he ever was Paw Cartright on Bonanza. Leslie Neilsen's Father was a pilot for the RCMP for many years, and his brother was once the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada.

I, too, liked him and his funny acting, the one that
sticks in my mind was, Kelly's Heroes, when they
tried to rob a bank with tanks during a war, funny.

R.I.P. Donald, you were a great entertainer.

Mike.
