What are you thoughts on beliefs? Are they ever wrong?

If one goes with scientific proof, then you must always be open to being found wrong. Scientific proof means you go with the best explanation based on current evidence. But as time goes on, we find new evidence, and that might disprove previous beliefs. You have to be okay with that.

Blind faith, or belief, is the issue. For someone like me, it's nonsensical.

In all things, we should be prepared to accept we could be wrong. We should also know that which we have actual evidence for, and what we don't. Actual evidence, in such a case, should pass the scientific test. Mankind has yet to come up with a better method of arriving at the truth.

To expound on the topic (don't I sound smart? Haha) what is a belief and who has them.? I laugh but my question is serious.

The job of the subconscious mind is to prove the thoughts ie beliefs of the conscious mind true, so whatever the conscious mind believes believes to be true the subconscious will confirm and this is how beliefs and assumptions form. I hope this isn't too confusing. For example if you believe yourself to be a lucky person or a responsible one, the subconscious will send you evidence of this in your reality.

Yes! That is very close to what I was trying to get across. What the subconscious mind believes so that the conscious mind believes it too isn't a belief that can be disproven. A belief is a belief and only the believer can cast it as true or not.

Thank you! :) Other opinions are also welcome!

You can have your own opinions or beliefs but not your own facts.

So, no, you can't just have your own alternative facts on any matter.

But you can have your own beliefs- as long as you also respect the beliefs of others and do not expect everyone to follow your beliefs. Or try to stop them following theirs.

Of course having your own beliefs doesn't mean having your own actions - meaning your beliefs are not an excuse to break the law or do anything untoward to anyone else.

Believe what you have experienced, keep an open mind. Don't close your eyes and don't believe everything you hear.
The old saying is They's just fast talkers is a great fact of knowledge. Have you noticed most all of them lying adds talk fast!
Movies are full of fast talking. Kool is the new speed of stuff. Would I pay to see the Rock, ah no. How about Taylor, no.
KC Chiefs, no. Chicago Cubs, no. You name it, not gonna pay to see it. We like our Curved Screen Smart TV's. HDTV rules.

When a belief moves into action then it is no longer a belief and the action(s) can be determined to be right or wrong. But not the belief that started it. "Sorry, Your Honor, Sir. That was never my intention (To rob a bank.) " Try to prove that one.

Maybe a belief is like hearing/reading a rumor, and then allowing ourselves to justify additional feelings and thoughts that make us think it has validity.? The original rumor has become something we think is "real".

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

That back and forth between the alleged bank robber and the judge was not about the action the defendant took but about the belief he faked the judge with that the defendant didn't do it and that he never intended to. But could the judge believe him? How could he because the judge wouldn't have known if the belief the defendant had was true or not. And that's the problem we have in discussions when we doubt each other about what we say we have a belief about or not And whether it's true or not.

not really getting your point Olivia.

In law we all have the same rules - beliefs, genuinely held or 'fake' , are not an excuse to break the law

I answered this several times but deleted my answers. Olivia is way over my head. That is my belief. She has greater understanding than me on philosophical matters. That is my belief. Olivia interests herself in thoughts such as this. That is a fact. This fact is based on years of knowing Olivia.

What are your thoughts on beliefs? Are they ever wrong? I believe people modify thier beliefs and are subject to change. Chances are our beliefs are nothing more than the influence that formed them. There is nothing original about that.

Beliefs are private without action. They are true for the believer. I don't care what creepy thoughts one might be thinking, or even what beautiful poetic thoughts they are believing. It becomes my business when action is taken on belief. Then the believer is setting themselves up for judgment.

OK, so let's say I have a belief that my house is haunted. I tell people, but they don't believe me. I even have them come to my house and spend the night. I hear many very strange things through the night, but my visitors still aren't convinced that it is haunted.? I guess we just don't believe the same things?

Maybe your friends aren't gifted to be able to see your ghosts, but you are......

I have heard of ( mainly ) women who have reported to the police that they are being stalked, and the police don't do much to protect this person because she has unsubstantial "proof". Then the creep attacks her sometime. What if we don't believe something that is potentially dangerous to us?

Beliefs are often wrong because the facts they were formed upon evolve and change as further knowledge is obtained and incorporated into the “fact”. Facts are often just theories held for a duration of time because no knowledge has emerged to alter the fact….yet. This happens rather frequently in science with continued research.

I haven't been communicating very well at all.

What if I put it this way: After viewing someone's actions is it possible to then know what that person's belief about doing those actions were? Can we be mind readers>?
