Do you enjoy word games?

My Father was always doing the crossword in the papers and he was really good at it. He would usually be able to complete the whole crossword without referencing any dictionary, et al.
Somehow I started doing crosswords as well and have been doing them for more than 35 years.
My vocabulary is astronomical. If I hear or see a word I have not encountered before then I find out what it means.
That is called learning.
I regularly buy a crossword book called, "Mister Wisdoms Whopper", it has 27,
400 word crosswords. I can complete these crosswords in less than an hour. Missing on average 10 words.
When completed, those that I did not know, I look up.
I was doing this one day in a cafe, and someone sitting beside me said, " That's cheating"
I looked askance at him and simply said, "If you do not know something, what do you do? You find out, yes?
It is called learning, not cheating"
Unfortunately he took umbrage and got uppity.
Some people.

A fellow Word Nerd! And I say that with the kindest of intentions. I, too, always look up a word I don't know when I come across one. I often end up getting absorbed in the dictionary when I notice other words while looking something else up. (This is how I learned both vitriolic and vituperative.) My kids always thought this was hysterical and playfully teased me, but hey—who'd they come to when they were panicked about their SAT Vocab exams?

I even have favorite words; one is dragoon.

Have you ever played Balderdash? Sounds like it would be right up your alley.

No, I have never heard of the game Balderdash.
I know the word means nonsense - et al.

I love word games and play them on here. We have a huge word games section...

At home here there is never a day goes by when I don't do a crossword, I love them always have since I first discovered them. Cryptic crosswords are my favourite.
I have never been able to do cryptics. No need to really. Crosswords sate my appetite. :)

My kids and I would nearly hurt ourselves laughing playing this. We used to have such a blast. People with an extensive vocabulary have a bit of an advantage because they can bluff so well.

I'm not really being clear, so here is a link to the original instructions. Later iterations of the game include more categories: https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/balderdash.pdf

Please note that the first page of that pdf document is actually the second page of the instructions.

On a daily basis I play Wordle, Blossom and Words with Friends. Weekends I buy a newspaper for the word games and cryptic crossword. My favourite word game though is Scrabble which I play a few times a week with son and grandson. Youngest granddaughter has also started playing so we have a game whenever she calls round here after school.

I buy crossword books, I'm a sucker for the skeleton crosswords.
Don't do online crosswords/quizzes.

Another Scrabble lover here. Used to have play nights with family/friends/daughter. Don't get to play it now.
I did once think about joining a Scrabble club in the local library but thought - nah - I'm sure I wouldn't be able to think the same as at home in a relaxed atmosphere.

I love word games. I'm hooked on Words With Friends. which I play several times a day. I tried the Scrabble app because I used to enjoy playing the board game, but the app is too glitchy. I love Cody Cross, a different kind of crossword puzzle. I've also played the games where letters are scrambled and you see how many words you can make; I also play word search puzzles. Cody Cross is available on Apple & Android devices.
