Scribbles is a houseplant destroyer

I can't keep her out of the spider ferns (or whatever they're called) and philodendrons. She's even ballsy enough to try shredding them during the day, right under my nose.

So, several flower arrangements arrived recently, and when I was deconstructing one of 'em, I tossed some leafy and ferny bits on the floor, like, "Oops, I dropped something. ...oh well."

She was on them immediately; "Step aside, freaky giant! I'll save my house from those ferny bits!"

I'm gonna set a bunch of these greens aside for her. It's not gonna keep her off Meesh's plants, though. I'm gonna have to make some sort of cages for them or something.

Scribbles is only about 4 months old, I'd say. She loves Pixel's old toys. He never really played with them much, but she wrassles with them all day. Well, between naps. She especially likes the little mice. She's actually ripped all their bellies open, and I stuffed the stuffing back in and sewed them back up for her.

She's a widdow tiger. And she roars incessantly. In her mind, it's roaring, I suppose. To my ears its an irritating, rapid-fire, screechy meeer-meeer-meeer, non-stop. Except when she's napping. All the rest of the time, meeer-meeer-meeer, she wants pets, she wants food, she wants pets, she wants food....

And, like a tiger, she likes to climb, so I made some shelves and mounted them on a wall so she can get up to the higher window and snooze or watch the birds and squirrels.

She's also a pig. She eats just about anything all freaking day. She's insatiable. I keep telling her she's gonna get fat. She doesn't care. And, tbh, I don't think she'll ever get fat. I mean, she works it off, man, day and night...except, you know, naps.

And she's still kind of ugly, but she makes up for it with a lot of personality. Or presence, at least.

Pixel is not at all impressed, but he lets her sleep next to him sometimes...barely tolerating it, I can tell.

Has she decided that your plants are the litter box? We had to put wire in all of them.

No, thank goodness, but she does like to toss out the wood chips and play floor-hockey with them. She mainly chews on the leaves a little bit and shreds them with her claws.

Yeah, I'm thinking wire cages or barriers.

Best keep the Philodendron far far away from your cat...

From the Animal Poison Control Center 855-764-7661

A multitude of Philodendron species exist. These plants contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals similar to other plants in the Araceae family. Chewing or biting into this plant will release these crystals causing tissue penetration and irritation the mouth and GI tract. VERY rarely, swelling of the upper airway occurs making it difficult to breathe. See Oxalates (Insoluble) for more information.

Common signs to watch for:

  • Drooling
  • Pawing at the mouth
  • Oral pain
  • Decreased appetite
  • Vomiting
Spider Plants are harmless to dogs and cats but some say that cats may be attracted to spider plants because they have mild hallucinogenic properties, which can lead to cats playing with and eating the plant. Eating the plant can cause an upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea.
