Hopes high for ferry to connect Canadian and U.S. neighbours

Good idea, I am surprised it hasn’t been done before.

It has been done before; years ago. It was stopped by the government. They had a problem with a 12 passager boat from Canada crossing over the 2 kilometre bay to the U.S.
I've taken a ferry to Canada....back when I was 17. Washington state to Victoria Island, and Victoria Island to BC. And then back again 2 days later. And there were cars on board.

You telling me they don't allow that anymore?

Apparently both sides want it. It’s the government intervening doing what government usually do. Mess things up!

That’s a different, commercial ferry. It won’t be stopping. Patti is talking about the small one crossing between New Brunswick and Maine.

Ah, got it. Thanks. I didn't watch the video.

Fun fact about my trip to BC: when I looked over the ferry's railing just before it set off, I saw a whale shark. Those weren't known to be in cold, northwestern waters.

Many years later, after PCs were common and I got adequate at using one, I reported my sighting on a whale shark-watchers websight. I never heard back from them. Maybe they don't respond to reports from non-scientists or whatever, or it's possible they didn't believe me, but I know what I saw. There's no mistaking a whale shark. They're very unique looking.
