Are the British regretting Brexit?

My last time in the UK, there seemed to be a lot of citizens who thought Brexit would be a plus.

Now I read the tide may be changing. Is there a chance the UK may rejoin the EU? Will it still keep the pound?

Brits have never really thought they were part of Europe. And, to me, Brexit was a reaction to the UK being Europeanized. I've wondered if the E. U. might look good to the UK, today?
You are right. I already learned at school that the Brits always valued their 'splendid isolation'. And I'm glad they left the EU. For them not for us Germans. In my opinion the EU is a monster.

agreed... the only thing is we're all left wondering why Brexit was voted for.. because one of the major reasons was to put a halt to the huge influx of immigrants... guess what ...?..not only has it not stopped it's increased...

Regret? Regret what? The costs of EU membership to the UK is £15bn gross (0.06% of GDP) – or £6.883 billion net.

A large percentage (40%) of EU spending goes on the Common Agricultural Policy. For many years this distorted agricultural markets by placing minimum prices on food. This lead to higher prices for consumers and encouraging over-supply.

Membership of the EU doesn’t necessarily mean membership of the Euro. But, the EU has placed great emphasis on the single currency. However, it has proved to have many problems and contributed to low rates of economic growth and high unemployment across the EU.

Since 2008, many southern European countries have faced pressure from the EU to pursue austerity, spending cuts to meet budget deficit targets, but in the middle of a recession these austerity measures have contributed to prolonged economic stagnation.

Free movement of labour has caused problems of overcrowding in some UK cities. The UK’s population is set to rise to 70 million over the next decade, partly due to immigration. Immigration has helped to push up house prices and led to congestion on roads. The concern is that in the EU, the UK is powerless to place a limit on immigration from Eastern Europe because free movement of labour is a cornerstone of the EU.

More bureaucracy less democracy. It is argued that the EU has created extra layers of bureaucracy while taking away the decision-making process further from local communities. It was 1849 when author-turned-politician Victor Hugo famously prophesied a “United States of Europe” a tightly integrated group of nations founded on peace, open trade and shared ideas. In the century that followed, Germany and France went to war three times; in 1946, Winston Churchill repeated the call to “build a kind of United States of Europe."

Whether one is for or against UK membership of the EU there's no doubt it was created to prevent wars, and it has been spectacularly successful at that.

Some newspapers, politicians and the odd holidaymaker,
want it back, if the new government, decide to go that way,
we will get screwed, we will be required to take the Euro and
open the borders again.

I remember when General de Gaule, didn't want us.

But, as I have said before, the children are in charge now.

Mike.

Open the borders Mike ?..we've never closed them.....

Good Post HC... many say we're already at 70 million, there are so many illegals.. you only have to send a drone up and see all the illegal accommodation in people gardens in many, many places which have a high immigrants population.. and to see the unscrupulous landlords of rental properties in some places which are housing up to 14 people, squashed into a 2 bed house.. know that for every house of people on the Census, there's at least that many or more not registered...

Try driving down the motorway for 100 miles or more ... the roads are jammed solid...

Sorry Mike and HC..I'm sitting on my hands on this one because it's way too easy.. to get very politically involved .. and it's against forum rules..

That puzzles me. Having seen the documentary Chevy Chase's European Vacation a couple of times, the strong connection seems pretty obvious.
No doubt about it. Such a reliable source as the entertainment industry cannot be wrong.

where is the sarcasm emoji?
