Woman charged $5,000 for MacBook shipped to her home she didn’t order

This has been going on for quite a long time here. The thief knocks the door soon after the package is delivered or get someone else to do it.. claiming that it was delivered to the wrong address.. and if they're quick enough the recipient often hasn't had time to even look at what the package is.. and hands it over...

That is an example of a con artist who would rather create ways to defraud honest folks as opposed to applying a clever mind to positive effort that might actually enrich them honestly.

oh yes, and in this day and age of internet shopping and banking we have may thousands of people who are more than willing to rob other people.. rather than live an honest life...

When we travel we have our mail and packages held at the Post Office. If there is something to be delivered by other than the PO we arrange for it to be picked up by a trusted individual. I spend more than a small amount of time scrutinizing the detail on my credit card and bank statements. One thing that I found is not allowing credit card information to be stored online either by the merchant or the app. It is less convenient because you must key data in repeatedly but mitigates some of the risk. I'm retired so I can take the time for cyber self defense.
 
You have to admit it's a great con. You get a package you never requested, and some guy shows up and says it's his. I'd say most would hand over the package.
One thing that amazes me is that we think if we leave a package by the front door, where anybody can walk away with it; then we're shocked when they do.??????????
