Why are some people so touchy these days?

Could be a host of reasons. People not taking care of themselves can lead to Psych issues, money concerns, family concerns, stress of living in this world with it's seemingly unending depressive news daily, the fact that a lot of people are mad at the system but since are too afraid to stand up-take it out on others, and yes what some said above, mad at themselves for their decisions and have to blame someone-cause it can't be them right?

I think most people in the world have realized that all govts have let them down and realize democracy doesn't exist anymore. I mean the US is a disaster. Is biden real? Lol. I mean can anyone be that pathetic? Illegals entering the size of armies, fake bird flu being pushed etc. Canada is lost and run by clowns. Our great leader raised the cost of everything by 23 percent this year in a depression/inflationary bubble, but nothing is done. France is and has been a nightmare for years now. Germany is a disaster/nightmare-where a raped woman gets more jail time for calling out the rapists than the rapists do, just because they were illegals.

I hope with all these elections and changes in govts something actually changes. But in my time in the Military I have seen things that don't make sense yet are done with such regularity that it is the norm. Sad world we live in, and my professional opinion is people are at their 'wits' end.
An example of a post naming a politician that should be edited out or deleted
Better:
Is b real?

Wow, the OP's question has (IMO) a multitude of answers and while I can speak for myself - an American - I suspect others may feel similar...
None of those things even if true, requires a negative emotional response. Especially being the first party during discussion to act emotionally. In other words, those issues can be discussed calmly without being "touchy".

Several more posts correctly listing society ills. But folks, none of that gives people a license to be the first person to be emotionally "touchy" when engaged with others over issues, especially strangers.

Tbh I have rarely encountered such behaviour in 'real life'....perhaps it is just down to the relatively small circle of life I inhabit and the small group of people I would call friends. However most certainly it is at an unhealthy level on social media, mainstream media and even television shows. However being the age I am - 69, I couldn't care less what people think of me...I don't go out of my way to intentionally say or do things to offend but if someone takes it in such a manner I aint bothered,.

You live in Scotland. Isn't "Knife crime " a big concern in your country? My sister in law lives in Motherwell, and she is 70 years old. She is very concerned for the safety of her teen age grand children. What is your position on this level of crime in your country ? JIMB In Toronto.

It seem no matter what you say, they take offense or take it personally. I make what seems to me an innocuous comment and someone blows up. e.g.

Me: People from big cities always seem to be in a hurry.
Them: What have you got against people from big cities?
or
Me: Folks in rural areas sometimes don't get good utility service.
Them: Do you find something wrong with people that live in the country?
I hope you don't chase after with a straight jacket but I think what is happening to us today is the same as what happened to people in the 1400's. That was a terrible decade with plagues and wars and what has happened lately? We had a pandemic and we are constantly involved in wars even if that is only hearing about the brutality in some countries. Thanks to our technology we can know of everything horrible thing that happens around the world.

There is talk of the end of times as there was talk of the end of times in the past. I am sure in the past, people were hurting and fearful as much as we are now. They lived with a belief that knowledge and civilization moved from the East to the West and before Columbus discovered the New Land, they thought coming to the end of land, they had come to the end of life on earth. Columbus's discovery of the New Land changed all that and gave people hope about the New Promised Land and what they needed to do to fulfill the prophecy of a second coming.

Religious groups flooded into North America believing they had a mission to create more saints and convert the natives and bring heaven to earth.

We have new problems to face and as in the past, we are disheartened by our poor choice of leaders and fears of corruption, and as in the past, we are passionately pitted against each other.
Those bad times led to the Enlightenment and we may be in the Resurrection now. The past is being resurrected by archeologists and geologists and related sciences.

I think it is our job to learn as much as we possibly can and then rethink everything with all this knowledge of the past and science and manifest the promise of the Enlightenment.

The knife crime is worse in the cities Jim...Glasgow, Edinburgh (I'm in between them). Crime generally is on the rise but a lot of it isn't reported to the Police because of the lack of faith in them to actually do the job.

What we have in Scotland atm is an announcement by Police Scotland that due to lack of numbers (according to them) they won't actually attend all reported crimes....they will pick and choose which ones will get preference and by that they mean the crimes that they think they will be able to solve which is a small percentage.

However, and here is the really annoying thing, you may have heard that the SNP who unfortunately are in charge in Scotland atm have introduced a laughable and hated piece of legislation...a Hate Crime bill which basically means if you say something which 'MAY' hurt somebodies feelings you can end up with a criminal conviction (there is more to it but you get the gist).

We have had to deal with covid, insane politics, the thought that our environment is in crisis stage. Some put their heads in the sand. Some deny there is a problem. Others obsess with worry. We are worried and divided and unfortunately unable to agree on much. That is enough reason for people to be "touchy".
I know. I've literally felt physically sick about the fire I posted about. All my stress goes to my stomach. Had a headache yesterday. That on top of everything else, I worry too much also.

I'm at the point where I don't talk to people much.

Setting priorities is a standard Police practice in most first world countries. Here in Toronto the TPS has a 4 level response system, based on the severity of the incoming call starting with a class A incident, a B and a C and a D.

Gun fire ? Immediate response. Vehicle accident with multiple injured people ? Immediate response. Somebody stole your bicycle ? Come to the station and fill out a report form. Your 19 year old son has been smoking pot? Its legal, no response required.

Canadian Police ( of all ranks ) are armed while on duty, so each of them is an "armed response officer " and in Toronto during the dark hours, all patrol cars have 2 officers on board to deal with radio calls for service plus special units like K9, the gun truck with Emergency Task Force officers, and the plain clothes and old clothes units. I watch UK Police videos, and their reluctance to go hands on with violent offenders is something that you won't see here in Canada. The Police attitude here is if you fight us when we are trying to arrest you, be prepared to get hurt in the process. Go quietly, no problems.

Canadian Police while off duty are not normally armed, except in really small locations where there may only be 4 or 6 officers in total. In those isolated places the coppers do have their firearms with them at home, in case they are called out after hours. Remember that in many parts of northern Canada, there are places that can only be reached by boat or by aircraft.

What I should have added regards setting priorities was............where I said the police will pick and choose what reported crimes they will attend to....they WILL investigate ALL reports, whether malicious or not, of the hated Hate Crime....

Yes, everyone is touchy and on edge and in my opinion the reason is that we're living in a crazy hostile environment caused by corrupt politics that we can not talk about here.
The worse it gets the more I pull away from people, just stay in my house with the door closed...it's beyond frustrating to watch this happening to our country.

I wasn't actually referring to the forums or Fora... I was talking about real life..
Just thinking in print. I sometimes wonder if it isn't similar to hearing only one side of a conversation. All of a sudden we are exposed to what may be a reaction to that other half of the issue. Maybe our entire social climate is what is making more people touchy.

Well, freedom of speech should never mean the freedom to say anything we want but making it a crime to be a jerk is a little extreme. How about, "Before he stabbed me, he said something that hurt my feelings". Will that increase interest in finding and punishing the person who stubs someone?
