So it says on the news today. Apparently gonnorrhoea and syphylis are at a record high.

It's a horrible intriguing subject - of which I have absolutely no personal experience thank goodness. Reading about the symptoms it must be horrifying and so embarrassing for anyone. We live in the modern age of medicine so I presume all is now curable.

I remember reading somewhere that in the past was so much suffering especially for innocent women whose husbands would bring the diseases to them. Victorian gentlemen saw no reason to curb their behaviour I bet. No doubt Victorian ladies would hide the fact and quietly perish. What a dreadful death.

What is intriguing is why such a spreading of these serious infections now? We have so much information and ability to prevent such infectious diseases after all. Apparently it is a post-covid increase in rates. By the way we never really hear about AIDS these days but I doubt it has disappeared.

Excuse me --I've got to run and get my syphilis test..

Health Officials Recommend Alaskan Adults be Tested for Syphilis

Like you, I too have no personal experience of the clap. I was under the impression, wrongly I guess, that penicillin more or less kills off VD
Back in my twenties I had a rather worrying small lump in my testicles. My lady got me along to a specialist. That doctor was the ultimate snob. He didn't actually touch my scrotum, he prodded it with a small probe. When he spoke he pronounced the letter V like a W. So when he diagnosed my problem he told me that I had a Waricose Wayne. I had to look away, I was cracking up.

He told me that it was something quite common and best left. He was right, I still have that Waricose Wayne. It doesn't bother me nor my lady, but when the internet came along I came across this hilarious quack remedy:

place 200 grams of chestnut peel, half of a kigelia fruit, 200 grams of kigelia bark, 250 grams of dried leaves of mistletoe from Africa, 250 grams of cypress cones and a small piece of red potash. boil in seven litres of water for about 40 minutes.
Filter and drink warm, a glass full every morning and evening until healed.

You will be healed alright. I had to look up kigelia. It's poisonous.

Cute story. Well, luckily your Waricose Waynes aren't deadly. Unlike, apparently, the kigelia. Geez.

It's so embarrassing to get a STD because of the negative attention they have gotten. People are not embarrassed to get Cancer because it doesn't make them look bad. I think more help would be given to those with STD if people weren't stigmatized by it. More people would come forward and get treated.

Syphilis and Gonorrhea are curable but the latter sometimes has no symptoms. That's why it's important for sexually active men and women to get tested for STDs.

Yes, for those people who are sexually active, it's important to have regular testing for sexually transmitted diseases. The majority of these diseases could be prevented with the correct use of condoms.

I agree but I've heard it so many times that many men don't like them so they don't use them. I know it's the woman's duty to tell them but they often refuse.

Well, if a man wants to have sex with a woman who insists he wears a condom and he refuses, if she's smart, she tells him he isn't getting any, period. That is simply non-negotiable. Hit the road, Jack.

Yes but.

when it happens in the heat of passion it may be a different story....

Worrying at the time but thank goodness not serious.

Absolutely, the illness and discomforts must be horrendous. People often snigger or joke about these things but they are very serious. I heard that Chlamydia can girls sterile. A friend of mines grand daughter had it and was very distressed. She had to tell previous partners, how embarrassing.

90% women only interested in 10% of guys
Well known fact: 90% of women are only interested in about 10% of men. Basically, this means that nearly all women are chasing a very small number of desirable men, leaving 90% of men out in the cold, battling each other for scraps. Fortunately for me I am in the top 10% and I have women throwing themselves at me all the time. I don't have to do anything, they approach me and beg me to go home with them. They get all giddy and smiley and excited. Nice life being in the top 10%. But I don't take advantage of it as much as I could. I guess I am just a one-woman guy.
STD increase sounds inevitable.

Actually, the statement you mentioned is not supported by research. Preferences in dating and attraction are complex and vary greatly among individuals. Here are some findings from various studies:
These findings suggest that women’s interests in men are diverse and can’t be generalized to a specific percentage. It’s important to remember that everyone is unique and has different preferences when it comes to relationships.

Well to be frank instead of PC, not surprisingly its those many young on Hook Up web dating sites, many of ethnic groups with ingrained cultural issues ignoring safe sex, and some of those given new prophylaxis medicines, must selfishly think they are safe now.

Reported STDs in the United States, 2020 (CDC)
Reported STDs in the United States, 2020

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) impact the health of millions in the United States each year. The overall number of reported STDs has been on the rise since 2014 and shows no sign of slowing, with infections disproportionately affecting young people under the age of 25, racial and ethnic minority groups, and gay or bisexual men.

dont just blame young people - I have read that numbers of older people getting STD's has increased - I presume thanks to more divorces and relationships ending and seniors dating sites and such.

The safe sex message had to be modified so older people didnt just consider this a disease of young ones and also for older people to get help - younger people are spoken to about this when accessing care like pap smears and contraception and are less embarrassed about telling Dr's they have had new partners.
