Highest Electric Bill Ever!

It was over $150. Would have been over $160 if not for the almost 9 dollar credit I had. Admittedly, I didn't pay the last two months because I had credits for low usage.

No matter what I try to do, it's double plus what I used to pay in the summer before all these rate hikes. I know the AC is the main culprit. I have it on 82, sometimes 81 at night. Old unit. Probably 30 years old original. With the lax repairs they do around here, I'm glad it's working.

My hope was about $130, hope dashed. But perhaps just one more bad month, or perhaps two.

I feel for you. Electricity prices are so high here too... even if I could have AC installed I wouldn't be able to afford to run it.. it's shocking the prices...

@hollydolly I remember you posting about being cold in the winter and that was really awful. Do you think your electricity is so high only because you are an island or is it also company greed? Like Pacific Gas & Electric here. Paying for all those lawsuits and making sure they still have tons of money after killing people, burning down communities and ruining lives.

Do you have Wi-Fi in your home so you could have a laptop or tablet in a warmer room of your house in the winter? I don't have the Wi-Fi turned on myself. The laptop is just at my little desk.

Before I moved, my monthly bill was running $30 - $35, Now it's $50 - $55. My usage is about the same, so it must be that the rates increased, although it will probably be more as long as the heat wave lasts since I run fans a lot.

I'm paying over $12 a month for vampire electricity (standby power), which I discovered when I was away in NYC for three weeks and yet my electric bill showed 41 cents of electricity per day being used.

Our electricity is high because our main supply comes from the Eastern Block, and has shot through the roof in price since the Russian Ukraine war...
yes I have wi-fi, it's warmer up here in the office room than downstairs in the house... not that it's cold at the moment.. but in winter it's pretty cold, so I wear 3 layers..
Our Energy Prices are the highest in Europe...

You are so lucky. I used to have monthly electric bills like that but it was twenty years ago. Now I pay triple digits monthly.

Now I do remember you mentioning about the Ukraine war. And I probably read it someplace also. That's getting really scary and I wonder how high bills can go? Here also. Pacific Gas & evil Electric does offer a senior low income rate cut, around 25%, I believe. Not sure if I'll qualify if I ever retire. I should be lower income. I plan to take advantage of anything I can.

Yes there's very little discounts in this country for seniors, it's really quite a disgrace. In Europe.. it's much better..
