Yet another Major global tech outage....Microsoft!

So far I've checked two Windows computers. No issues at all.

It seems to only impact machines with CrowdStrike's Falcon product on them, and now a faulty update has been installed. I think there is also a separate issue related to Office 365.

Anyone, who has a Microsoft anything, knows that sooner or later there will be a "glitch". That said, given the complexity of computer programs, all from various sources and for various purposes, there is bound to be some conflicts.
We now live in a digital age, the 20th Century is long gone.
 
Those pictures are my absolute nightmare... way too peopley for me. Just standing there... body to body. In my face. Shivers! :eek:🤯 Personally the outage has affected me only slightly. I'm supposed to be picking up a gift card I ordered and apparently the issuer uses Crowdstrike so it's refusing my access. :cautious:

Now, I wonder if Global Legislatures and Leaders will ask themselves if it’s really WISE to be so married to just one Operating System, Windows and Microsoft, and if maybe they very much need to research diversifying?

And this is also why, when you travel, PRINT all your reservations just as a back-up.

This is also why I still have paper maps in my car.

We are constantly being spoon fed how wonderful all this new technology is, but when it 'conks out', the chaos caused is much worse than when a fuse blew in an appliance in days gone by.

My friend across the road worked for many years as a secretary.
She told me about when the firm introduced a computer system, but how she stored all the original files in filing cabinets in the cellar.
Fast forward 18 months to when the computer system broke down, she calmly went into the cellar and found all the needed files, thus saving the firm from embarrassment.

It’s funny - I was also thinking last week that I need to burn my many important documents and pictures to DVDs.

I am not a fan of external hard drives any more because my home was burglarized in 2015 and what did they steal? ALL the electronics, including two external hard drives. That broke my heart. I was not yet connected to any cloud storage. Thought my local storage devices were enough.

SO - DVDs for me.

I got my kids external DVD/CD drives one year because I was told I should not send them CDs anymore since they are “old” technology. But gosh darn it, NOTHING wrong with old tech. Paper, pens, DVDs and CDs. Still useful and practical and a good back up to the stupid cloud.

Yes, that's why it's important to have your devices and drives encrypted.
 
The silver lining is that they'll learn to prevent that in the future, and hopefully learn how to recover from similar experiences. And I'd much rather accidentally cause a problem that we can fix, rather than have a hostile organization do it and then no one would know what happened.

I'm impressed that Crowdstrike owned up to it, though most likely they were still monitoring as they sent updates so probably was obvious to anyone who was involved. I wonder how the file got corrupted, for them not to have caught it seems like the corruption must have been from a very last step, like maybe encrypting the file to transmit it.

You'd think they could have sent the update to just a few large companies and then monitored them before sending it everywhere.
 
We have noted some minor issues with our cable TV programming. A few channels unavailable. It seems the airline schedules operate in a fragile network with far reaching impacts in flight delays and cancellations.

I wonder what they expected to find on them! I use exernal hard drives to back-up all the photos I want to keep, I have never considered them being stolen :unsure:
