When people have all teeth out at once

I remember in years past, knowing people who wore full dentures. One or two I knew were only in their forties. I never thought about it before but how on earth would they have coped with NO teeth! It sounds like a massive trauma and I wonder if anesthetic was as good in the past.
I may need one troublesome tooth out soon and I am not looking forward to even that.

I lost my front upper teeth to a car wreck, and several others to improper care. I was 42 when I got them all yanked and fitted for dentures, my dentist did it right though it took close to two months before I had dentures put in my mouth. One tooth you'll be fine, they'll put you out and give you some good drugs afterward.

Going all in seems a real bad idea. Dentists can rebuild and repair.
On a budget plan with dental insurances.

As one ages into the 70's they may expect to realize the teeth loosen
one at a time due to hard cracking sounds in the mouth.

I wear full snap in dentures top and bottom ... no paste or goopy grip stuff needed
Started going to the dentist when I was 2 and had often painful dental issues all my life
Cost me a fortune over the years. Went through crowns on most all teeth.

Finally a few years ago I'd had enough.
The dentist told me I'd hate it when I started wearing dentures.
That couldn't have been further from the truth.
I love my snap in dentures but only wear them going out or eating when home.

No more dental issues to worry about and plan financially for. WOooHOoo

Most teeth removed at once was 11.
Those extractions were done at the time posts were implanted top and bottom to accept the snap in dentures.
Perhaps the worst pain I've ever gone through.
Worst part was cutting into the roof of my mouth to expose the bone in the top gum line to get a good location for posts.
11 extractions, bone grafts and 8 implants all in one morning.
I did get some dang good meds for it :ROFLMAO:

Took my mouth months to completely heal.
My diet during that time was limited to liquid and what I could swallow whole.
Yet, I was able to eat what I mostly always ate ... Birds Eye Skillet Meals.
I'd toss them in my commercial grade Vita-Mix blender on high until it was warm soup.

The whole process of extractions, bone grafts, posts and snap in dentures top and bottom was $21,000 and worth every penny.
The down side? ... can't find one. But I'd sure as heck only want to ever have to go through with it once.

EDIT TO ADD: All the dental work for snap in dentures was done during the beginning of the pandemic when everywhere you went, had to wear a mask. Man 'o man that was a blessing :ROFLMAO: ... no one in public ever knew what I was going through HA. If I were going through that dental journey today instead of then ... I'd still wear a mask in public. We can still get away it ;)

I have good teeth, I have always looked after them. Yet I have had filling, abscesses and my fair share of dental treatment over my lifetime. I know I had both wisdom teeth out but I cannot remember much about it. Now I find myself very nervous at the dentist, even though modern dentistry has surely come a long way.

Growing up I knew a man in our church that was widely known to have PERFECT teeth and he was in his 50's.
Never so much as had a cavity. Truly Amazing !!!
Secretly I always wished I had teeth as good as Mr. Farrish.
But the thing is, Mr. Farrish passed away in his early 60's.
Teeth had nothing to do with it.

When my mum was mid-twenties and pregnant, the dentist advised her to have all her teeth removed and replaced with dentures, not because there was anything wrong with her teeth but because, if she had her teeth removed while she was pregnant, she would not have to pay and it would save her a lot of money in the future as she would not need to pay for any dental treatments! Mum declined and kept her teeth but, a lot of women didn't.

My mother suffered having had all her teeth removed when she was in her middle sixties. She said she had always hated drinking milk. I was raised on goat's milk as a child and have perfect teeth. Had a couple removed through abscess 40 years ago but still have them all except wisdom teeth which never came through.

I had numerous fillings, root canals, and even a couple of partials over the years. About 2 years ago, I had a couple more teeth go bad, and was down to about half my original teeth. Rather than fooling around with them anymore, I opted to go for full dentures. After they were pulled, I had to live on cream of wheat and pudding, etc., for 3 or 4 weeks before the gums healed well enough to be fitted with a set of temporary dentures. As the gums continued to heal, I had to use denture adhesive to keep the temps in place while eating, etc.
Finally, after about 6 months, I got the permanent dentures, and after 1 or 2 short visits to get them refitted, I have had no further troubles. I can now eat almost anything, and don't even need adhesive to keep them in place. I take them out at bedtime, let them soak overnight in denture cleaner, then pop them back in when I get up in the morning.....no more teeth aggravation.

No doubt it has. However, and unfortunately, unethical, malicious dentists have been the cause of most of my dental problems.

I know many people with full dentures, they cope fine.

Not sure if they had all teeth out at once or incrementally.

I have a partial denture just replacing 2 teeth. I find it quite comfortable and wear it all the time, except sometimes take it out at night, dentist said best to do that sometimes to let your gums 'breathe'

My mother had all her teeth pulled and replaced with implants in her early 70s. She went through it like a trooper and her perfect teeth lasted until she passed away at 89. She was always happy with them.

I've had 6 veneers on the top and 6 on the bottom. I still had my original teeth when they were made but they weren't used for a mold. They just fitted the veneers over the little stubs of my teeth that were ground down. I always had terribly crooked and stained teeth. Now they are perfect, and porcelain veneers don't stain even when drinking coffee or red wine. I'm sold!

I've had lots of fillings, because the water in Scotland is soft with no fluoride when I was growing up.. and all my wisdom teeth removed because they grew in impacted..

My DD OTH has beautiful strong teeth. She was born here in this town, where the water is fluoridated, and hard... . ..at 48 years old..she's never even needed a filling....last year however she did have to have 2 wisdom teeth removed..because they were impacted... all in all she's pedantic about ensuring she takes great care of her teeth..and her father my ex who is 69 years old now.. is the same, born and raised in this town.. only ever had a couple of fillings in his whole life...

That is a huge point, the water where you live has a big effect. The people I have known who had the biggest problems cited the soft water. Back in time, just a generation or two, fluoride toothpaste and so much else we take for granted was not available.
