Was Ringo Starr overrated?

I burned the few beatles records I had in 1966 when Lennon said the beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ and never looked back. Lennon later repeatedly apologized and clarified at a series of press conferences that he was not comparing himself or the band to Christ. umm okay

During a port visit to Liverpool, I did take the Beatles tour. Bus played Beatles music the entire time of course. Went by houses the Beatles were said to grow up in or live. Couldn't go into any of them though. They are privately owned homes. There were several drinking establishments I visited but only walked past the Cavern Pub/Club and not sure why. Maybe because of the queues, admission or whatever. I wasn't ever really a Beatles fan.

Enjoyed the tour though and was really surprised at how closely the Beatles song lyrics are to places that were actually around them. They drew their songs from their lives and experiences. Even went by Strawberry Field but couldn't go onto the grounds. It was still an active children's home run by the Salvation Army at the time in the 90's. Greatly enjoyed Liverpool. Was a nice port visit.

There was a soccer match out in town one night. Can't remember who Liverpool was playing but it was a fierce rivalry. They wouldn't let us off the ship that night :ROFLMAO: ... said it was too rowdy and possibly dangerous with all the sports fans in the streets and pubs.

He was probably correct then in the same way as some current day performers are idolised.

Music Reporter: "Do you think Ringo is the best drummer in Rock 'n Roll?"

John Lennon: "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in The Beatles."

Loved George, though. Here Comes the Sun is a masterpiece.

Ringo always reminded me of a really good studio drummer when he was with the Beatles.
Their music changed and evolved over the years and Ringo just said, 'I Got This'.
Listening to Jazz, I get to hear a lot of session drummers and can most times tell who's on the Kit.
He would have fit right in as a session drummer, like Steve Gadd and Russ Kunkel.

Ringo gets my vote as a great drummer.

I never saw anything exceptional in his drumming. Maybe because the songs didn't demand anything exceptional from a drummer? However, in one local survey of Beetle female fans he came out the most popular for some reason.

Truly? He has aged better than Paul. That's for sure. I like Ringo but he was never my favorite.

Ringo, drug an alcohol problems. Same old thing. Boredom over took him. Bongos saved him.

Nice breeze today. Cools the bode. Here I set broken hearted. Putted my third stroke an faerted.

Do you think John was the 12th best singer of all time? I think he was better than that, maybe a bit.
I think that is about right 12th best. The list is made up of all music genres so there is some real tough competition.
