No wonder I watch very little free to air TV these days

Last night I watched NCIS-LA.
There were 10 ad breaks in the hour. Once, they showed 2 minutes of the show then went to another ad break.
They must be making so much money and yet the majority of the programs are repeats.
Very little original content made by Australian Commercial TV Channels

see here in the UK we still don't get adverts like that on terrestrial tv... Our adverts around 4 per hour.. 15 sometimes 20 minutes apart.... and of course we have the BBC channels which have no adverts or commercial at all..

I watch American Court TV sometimes and it drives me to distraction because there's literally an advert every 3 or 4 minutes... I always end up switching it off because of it, I can't stand that..

There is a US news program that starts off okay, maybe 10 minutes without an ad. Then it is one very , very short news item (30 seconds) then off to ads, back, one item, back to ads.
I can only watch the initial 10 minutes then leave.
I wrote to the TV channel complaining about the ridiculous format. Never got a response.

I think american tv has really gone downhill lately, from atrocious cost to advert's, to repeat programs from 40 yrs ago,
believe we will lose the Big 3 here and lord know what will happen then...too much Entertainment news shows now, local tv here has gone bonkers over sports broadcasts......

this is the reason we pay for a TV licence to the BBC We get no adverts.....on the BBC channels. ( there;s 4 of them).. plus we get all the BBC radio stations too..No adverts.....and the BBC is where the BIg Drama sows are broadcast.. Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife, Dr Who, Wallander...Killing Eve, Sherlock, paky Blinders et al.... all the David Attenborough Nature shows...

I've more or less tempered my attitude towards ads on TV. I pay the ad-less fees when available, gives me the choice to avoid ads at a small price. There are some 'Free' services that hold the ads to a minimum, not many but a few. I use the flexible cancellation options with premium (if it's been a while since I watched something on them, goodby, see you later). gives better programming choices rather than cuss the ads.

I've found that by flipping the channels I still hold some control over what I want to watch. Plays H**l with their tracking. I dumped Amazon Prime almost 2 years ago. NetFlix is a hit or miss on a monthly basis. Timing my viewing is my new retirement activity. I do very little binge watching, my attention span is limited (Breaking Bad was my last). After 4-5 episodes, I'm bored & need to move on. Takes forever to solve a problem.

I refuse to pay for television. I just have a digital antenna. I only watch game shows from the 70's and 80's. It blows my mind to think that everyone I'm watching, in these rerun shows, is dead. So I'm watching because I can remember the original broadcast. When my generation is gone they won't be airing these shows anymore.

The next generation can look forward to the lame reboots of these shows.

I watch as many as possible of the David Attenborough nature shows. His nature shows are great. I just watched one a few weeks ago about life under the sea. Very few commercials and I couldn’t miss a minute. If I got a phone call, the caller and number show up on my TV. Unless it’s one of my kids or grandkids, I let it ring and let the answering machine take it.

The apartment where I live started giving us a limited version of cable television and Wi-Fi as part of our rent.

I signed up and found the free Wi-Fi to be very helpful but the basic cable offering was one long tedious pitch to sign up for additional pay channels.

I disconnected it and went back to AirTV with a ten dollar antenna from the local Walmart.

AirTV has more than enough to fill my time. The only thing that I miss is the ability to see what is coming up on the various stations.

I use the long commercial breaks to do my cleaning, meal prep, etc…. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish in those little pockets of time.
