Is There an Underground Economy Where You Live?

25 years ago there were sales, garage sales, yard sales everywhere onewished to look Thursdays thru Sunday afternoons possibly. One sets his stuff along side the road.
_____________
Now lawed that into certain days of the year. One donates ones stuff to non profits
in large stores. Haha. Occasionally one sees a handicapped person working in one. A
Huge home office staff makes sure to not have a money maker. That’s it !
Along with panhandling and Homelessness. Which is mostly organized and the job.

This morning there was a weather story about a couple who had lived in Delaware for the past 40 years or so, nice brick house surrounded by trees and green grass, and I felt so envious of them having gotten to live there their whole lives, with seasons, and maybe even some societal sanity in their region. Or maybe not. Cannot know a place, really, until you have lived there a couple of years.

I just wonder - do they live in a region with an underground economy and lots of gang activity? Maybe they do. The gangs are everywhere.
You answered your own question....yes, they do....gangs are everywhere.

So how in hell do you think that Delaware couple did so well?

(it's not a tough question)

Maybe they had a home in fla. and a guard dog at the Dela. Not many can afford to live in Del.
Me, Myself & Irene.

I am a little more curious about the gangs, or specifically the types of gangs. Are they like organized crime, which would pit them in the Mafia element, are they any gangs that are strictly nationality type, for example--Asian, Latin, etc.? Motorcycle gangs? Gangs formed by young people for the sake of causing harm to others, including setting fires and other civil disturbances?

If you don't care to answer, I understand.
yes, yes, yes and yes. There are others but don't wish to say anymore on the matter.

No I wouldn't. I think I must be lucky in this.
me either... I have no idea where to go or who to speak to... here in this small market town I'm sure they're all very small time crooks ... but of course the Great Metropolis is just 20 miles away , and I'm sure if I asked around someone would point me in the right direction in London...

Same here, meth freaks everywhere. A few years ago 3 vape shops and 2 massage parlors popped up in our small desert town, seemingly overnight. Several legitimate businesses are owned by outlaw biker gangs.. I wouldn't think of getting involved with these crooks, once you do you're one of them, and they have their hooks in you.
here in my small market town it's not Vape shops as t is in the bigger towns and cities... but Turkish Barbers. How many specifically Turkish Barbers does a town of 25,000 people need.. when there's only 3 ladies hairdressers..... do we really need 12 ?> when for the last 50 years we've made do with 2 traditional Barbers... .. ..and they the Turkish all sprung up a couple of years ago.. in the same period.. all plush .. and rarely ever see anyone in them...

A lot of these gangs have cells or Chapters throughout the U.S. just like the Hells Angels or Pagans. I had a case against 4 of the Hells Angels that had raped and killed 2 women in the western part of our country. There were three U.S. Attorneys prosecuting this case. The lead prosecutor's name was mistakenly released by a major newspaper. He had received almost 100 death threats. Fortunately, nothing went down or was attempted.

We also had another case against 3 members of an Asian gang (TRG) that robbed 2 banks in California. We were able to nab 2 of them who undeniably were arrested and charged. The 2 heists netted the gang some $80,000.00. We believe the third one high tailed it back to his homeland in Cambodia and with the way their government and law enforcement is run, we will not get out mitts on him. We also received death threats before and during their trial. They were found guilty, but the judge gave them very lenient sentences and we think there was some hanky-panky going on with that case. They only received 3 years and were out in less than 2.

Like they say, "Money talks and BS walks."

You put your question to GoneFishin, and I'll admit that because I live well outside both Vancouver & Calgary, the two nearest big metropolitan areas, I don't follow this stuff too much. Yes, there are ethnic gangs in larger cities. My impression is that the Hell's Angels are possibly the most widespread system in the west of Canada. They may interact business-wise with some of the ethnic gangs, each of which seem to be more local to individual cities.

There may be well-researched reports intended for the public, from government and/or law-enforcement, online. I haven't searched that.

There is most likely an underground economy everywhere. I know where to go if I wanted drugs. I don't.

I probably would not be able to find a fake ID in this area. Not saying it doesn't exist. If it does it would most likely require more sophistication than a meth lab does and would be kept quieter.

Even very small communities of, say, 500 residents can have a few petty criminals. Larger communities, of course, tend to have more... and maybe a higher proportion.
Oh I'm sure every community has petty criminals- shoplifting and similar minor things.

But that isnt drug rings or fake ID organised crime level mentioned in OP.
