I suspect that part of the reason that men's beards have come back in style is because women can't grow them. Some women's styles have gotten so close to men's that we need something to stylistically separate the sexes. Women can wear men's haircuts, men's traditional clothing, and can even act like men. But a beard is 100% masculine.

I don’t think so. I see them more as the equivalent of a hairstyle on women. If they like the way it looks, they grow one and take care of it.

I will never understand the large, shaggy, scary-looking beards; the “Now I am a Mountain Man” beards. Maybe that is their purpose - to exclaim they have become a frontiersman and are shunning modern society?

Makeup is fake. Beards are natural. "a little box of powder and a little pot of paint serve to make a woman look like what she aint."
IDK - I’ve met a few men who can “look like what they ain’t” with just their charming smile and demeanor.

People treat me differently with and without a beard
For some reason they seem more friendly when I have a beard
Plus a wider range of people types seem more accessible if that is the word I'm looking for
Most seem to be okay engaging with an older guy with a beard

At the end of the day I wear a beard mostly because I'm lazy
I'm a retired older guy that can do pretty much what he wants
And I don't want to stand in front of a mirror and scrape my face 5-10min each morning

I use a trimmer to keep a light grey shadow on my face. It also covers up those pesky age-related laugh lines.
Vanity admission. There's a large mole on the right side of my face, as a young man I asked my doctor about having it removed. He advised me to leave it well alone. It was suspected that removal could trigger cancerous cells, he then asked why didn't I grow a beard? Simply because I hadn't thought of it doctor.

Fast forward thirty years and the beard, despite wearing it short and well trimmed, was starting to show just too many flecks of grey. What? Grey? Old people go grey, I'm not old. The beard came off, I preferred the mole than grey. What am I like?

I have no facial blemishes, my face pleasing so i am not hiding behind my beard. I have a beard because I can, clear and simple.

When out in the bush my husband would allow his beard to grow. He once asked me if I disliked it. Now, personally I would not care to be dictated to about my appearance so I told him he should do whatever he preferred but that, as a matter of fact, I loved his face and always liked to see it. Off came the beard.

I guess I've had mine so long, it's just part of my identity. If I looked in the mirror and it wasn't there, it would feel strange.
I suppose when I decided to cultivate it, I may have subconsciously thought that a grey beard was a sign of wisdom. Turns out it's just a sign of age.

Your doctor was wrong or misinformed.

I’ve had a few moles removed from my face, just for vanity. If they are the potentially pre-cancerous type (flat and not perfectly round) removal will be covered by most insurance. If they are not pre-cancerous, then you have to pay for removal yourself.

One I had removed just because it was near the inner-side of an eyebrow and every time I had to buy new glasses, I found myself choosing the frames depending on if the bridge of the glasses were going to fall above or below that mole! That's stupid! A mole should not be telling me what glasses to buy, IMO.

Ironically, that was long ago when there were not as many highly advertised deals on glasses and frames, so I’d spend maybe $300 on two pairs of glasses, the frames of which I would choose to workaround the mole.

For about $400 to $500 I could just get the mole removed and then have fewer restrictions on glass frames.

Anyway, if a mole is bothering you anywhere on your body, get that thing REMOVED, if you can afford to. I know many do not have $400 to spare. Doing so, for me, was a great decision. Scarring is minimal and after 6 months to a year, no one can see where the mole used to be unless you point it out to them.

Medicine has come a long way - get a mole removed if it bothers you. You’ll be mad that you didn’t do it sooner! And if it’s flat and the pre-cancerous type, it’s a legit health issue.

A beard may not be "make up" per se, but some men really do need mustaches and beards to enhance their appearances. Chuck Norris comes to mind. I generally find men with hair on their faces more appealing, unless they are unkempt.
