Maybe so in Canada, but to me 20 C would be me trying to save on my electric bill in wintertime.Plus 20 C is shirt sleeve and shorts weather
Are you sure about that ? Plus 20 C is 70 degrees F. In Canada, we maintain our public buildings at 20 or 21 C, year round.Maybe so in Canada, but to me 20 C would be me trying to save on my electric bill in wintertime.![]()
The UK is Celsius, Mexico is Celsius and Canada is Celsius. Everything around the US is CelsiusI just thought of another one. Brits tend to talk in Celsius. Americans seem to like Fahrenheit.
You mean "The Wall" is....working?We

I'm not sure what the whinging is about. Like many countries, the US uses a balance between metric and traditional weights and measures.
The "issue" sounds like domestic self-hatred and global envy to me.
Change is the only constant.
Me too!
My goodness, you had to go back 80 years, to dig up that old chestnut ? Should I remind you that the only country to ever actually USE an atomic bomb, was the USA, twice. In 2024, the USA's military forces ALL use the Metric system of measurement, did you know that fact ?It is a simple discussion. But the wrong one.
The United States has acquiesced to too many "international" concerns.
The entire world was happy to let us use our inches, feet, yards, and miles when we pulled their feet out of the Nazi fires.

The US military uses the Metric system of measurement to be in step with the rest of the world's military forces. Military maps and charts use meters and kilometers, and kilos are used for weight measurements. Liquids are measured in liters not gallons. Weapon calibers are in millimeters . Speeds are measured in kilometers per hour. If Billy Bob from rural Montana can master this system as a private going through basic, maybe you can too.Sure, but WHY would it be so good to do so?
That's good reason. Anathema to me but reason enough. The US military uses the Metric system of measurement to be in step with the rest of the world's military forces. We don't have to "fight it", know one can make us do it except our own government. If that was going to happen it would already be done! Until the majority if the American people want it, it will not happen...My guess is that the USA would rather double down and spend more time and energy fighting it than it would take to fall into line with the rest of the world.
So what you are really saying is that the USA is 54 YEARS behind Canada in terms of adopting the Metric system? Canada switched to the Metric system in 1970. In 54 YEARS the USA could have made all the changes you pointed out in your post. As for learning the system, that takes place in Grade 4 in Canada. Are you saying that American kids can't learn Metric, if it is taught as a part of the curriculum, nation wide ?We don't have to "fight it", know one can make us do it except our own government. If that was going to happen it would already be done! Until the majority if the American people want it, it will not happen...
No doubt that not having it now is costing us something...but for the USA to convert 100% metric would have a very large price tag, not to mention the work for everyone to learn the system. Costs like converting all gasoline pumps, all cash registers, all computers, etc. etc. billions if not trillions of conversion costs....
Americans unwilling to get off their pot.But isn't it time we ditch the 16th Century measures, so we can understand what the rest of the world is using?
Why not have a world currency, and government so people don’t get confused?
