Our house sold in 4 days and we found another in 3!

Thank you all. We’re excited.

@Jules @PeppermintPatty there is an existing building on the property which Ron can retro-fit to use as his shop. He’ll need to add some wood racks on the exterior and extend the roof to cover them, but it’s already insulated, with electricity and good air circulation, lots of shelving and storage. Perfect for his needs. Needs to be painted the same color as the house because currently it’s just raw treated wood. I think I have a picture……oh! Yeah here it is.

@Kadee the flower bed is untended but there are clearly flowers popping up and lots of potential! We’re moving towards the end of the growing season now, but I’m looking forward to creating a lovely array of color in that spot in front of the house next spring. Lots of foundational work I can do before then to prep.

The backyard is very shaded..lots of trees, a natural looking setting, so I’m planning a variety of shade plants mixed with ornamentation, an arch, sculpture, and lots of color and texture in the leaves. It will take several seasons to complete but it’s going to be such a fun project.

Here are several of pictures (and I have many more) to give you a very general idea of what I plan to do, though nothing quite as ambitious as some of these.

@hollydolly The new house is on the other side of town to the west, and we’re currently north. It’s about an hour from where we are now. There is absolutely nothing I have any desire to come back to here so that distance is immaterial. The last time I drive away from here will be enormously relieving and cathartic. I’ll be about the same distance away from my clients, just in another direction, and closer or the same distance from the kids. Location is perfect.

Downsizing has been a challenge. As just one example, we currently have a living room, a den, and a sunroom, and furniture in all three. At the new house we just have a living room. We’ve sold or given away to family and friends most of the overflow, with more to go.

Houseplants are another issue. Way too many for the new house, so many have found new homes with family and friends.

This move and all its aspects have been keeping me very busy for which I am grateful. It forces my attention towards the countless details and planning and organizing, and away from my deep sadness.

Ron’s workshop looks fabulous. It being already insulated takes away a big job and expense.

I like the flower pictures you added to give us a general idea of what you are looking for. It will look like a natural shaded oasis.

Good job. This is just what you needed.
It absolutely is what I need right now. I need to get away from here, and I need a heavy-duty long term project to keep me forward-focused and engaged for some time to come.

This move has been the only thing that’s energized me and engaged my interest since Devin died, both because it gets me away from the countless triggers and reminders, and also it’s something I have finally been able to dig into and focus on, instead of drowning in my grief.

I like your phrase “a natural shaded oasis.” You captured the essence of what I want to create out there!

@Kadee i think you might have misunderstood. The pictures of the gardens I posted are my inspiration photos, ideas for the way I want our back garden to look once it’s done. It’s an ambitious plan, but I’m hopeful! 🤞
Oops sorry I went back and read your post correctly @Ronni your plan is stunning, hope you keep us updated on your progress, Id think your cooler months coming up where we are approaching spring time .

Are you still dancing? we are, we only arrived home from a 7 week driving trip to Queensland 2 weeks ago
attended lots of ballroom dancing while away on our 5.500 km return trip
oops getting off topic naughty me …

Closing on our current house is tomorrow. Final walk through for the new owners is today so we’ll use that time that we have to be out of the house to head to Home Depot to purchase and arrange delivery of a new washer and dryer.

We’ll also visit Comcast/Xfinity while we’re out and arrange for our internet to be transferred. The other utilities transfers we’ll do by phone.

Closing for our new house is next Tuesday 10 September. Movers are scheduled for Saturday 14th. All our kids are coming that day as well to help with the final wrap up, cleaning, transporting stuff in their vehicles that we don’t want to go in the moving van, like hanging clothes, keurig etc for our first cup of coffee Sunday morning in the new house, toiletries, etc.

We wrote into the sale contract a contingency that we have the right to rent the house back from the new owners for up to a month after closing, because we need the proceeds to 100% pay for the new one. It takes a day or two for the funds to clear. Given that closing is so close to the weekend, it's likely that the funds won’t clear till next Monday so we can’t use the money for the new house till next week. So we’ve rented back the house through till 15th September.

The sheer volume of our separate and combined To Do lists has been daunting at times, but it’s coming together and we’re on the home stretch now.

I’ll be very relieved to soon not have to live with the walls of packed boxes that have been accumulating!

Good Luck Ronni in the new Era of your lives... (y)

It IS a challenge! We did that just a few years ago, and boy is it exhausting. But the results are worth the effort.
Good luck in your new place.

The day we moved from our last house into this one we had the worst argument of our married lives.

Hubs was doing some irrational things like angrily making a hole in the back of our brand new armoire so as to put an electrical cord through. In the process he was using a little saw and unknowingly running it into our brand new wall. All unnecessary, because the manufacturer had premade a hole for just that purpose 20 inches away.

After some heated words on both our parts, I realized it was because we were exhausted from trying to do it all in one day.

That won't be you, Ronni, because you have your family helping and you're not so silly!

Best of luck!

I don’t understand why both closings couldn’t occur on the same day. In the past 27 years I’ve done 6 that way. Maybe you aren’t in the USA. Anyway I’m so glad you will be in your new home soon!!

@Teacher Terry We’re in Nashville TN. We purposely staggered the closings. We had no control over the closing date of our current home, but used that date to determine an acceptable closing date for our new home.

Because we’re not financing the new house, instead paying in full for the purchase, we needed the several days spacing for the funds from the sale to clear, because that’s the money we’re using to pay in full for our new house.

That is fantastic Ronni. You were smart to start purging early on. Your new house is so cute. It reminds me of some of the homes I see on the home buying shows. Best of blessings in your new home.
