Attention Freeloaders, crackdown coming

DGD got caught trying to use her mother’s card. It’s too bad they don’t have a family membership for the child that still lives at home. She should just buy a membership. It would be paid for in the savings for gas.

Something tells me that we'll be seeing these places closing in the future.
Tell that to the people driving around looking for a parking spot. 🤣

Duh. When you pay your $60 (US) membership, you get TWO membership cards- one for you, and one "for a member of your family".
So, if Costco gets all bent out of shape about card use, don't issue cards "for a member of the family". A "family" can be a sister, brother, or cousin Esther's boy, Frank.

I don't like shopping there (or anywhere else really), but the card is worth $60 since our local grocery prices are extortionate. Also Idaho charges 6% sales tax on food so any savings are automatically increased by 6% through tax avoidance.

They also have some REALLY good products that are unobtainable elsewhere, at any price. Once I broke my wife of the impulse purchases (5lbs of green leaf lettuce, wtf?) we are saving money, and have sufficient supplies to avoid running out and being forced to shop locally at much higher prices.

Also got a US$1000 discount on a new vehicle last year. To avoid the membership expense Costco gift cards can be purchased by members, and used by anyone.

I like Costco and have enjoyed shopping there in the past.... bought hearing aids there also BUT I have to drive an hour to shop there and the membership fee is just not worth it to me now.

Deleted, replied to the wrong comment.

I don’t think Costco is getting all bent out of shape with memberships. They are tracking memberships looking for people who are using or abusing the system. Membership is for those who pay for it. Period. If you are paying for your own membership then you have nothing to worry about. If not, then you shouldn’t be there.

What’s so funny about my post?
Anyone who has a membership shouldn’t be worried about being there shopping. Costco IS a paid membership.

But Costco issues two membership cards when you join. The second is for "a member of the family". Who is to say who a "member of the family" is? If Costco is concerned about non-members using the cards, maybe it would be a good idea to stop issuing extra cards to " a member of the family".

Unless it has changed recently, it’s a (family) member living at the same address. They check your DL for addresses when you join.

We've had this at Costco now for at least the last year.... it's no biggie.. as long as that scanner bleeps no-one looks at the photo...

There's still a guy standing at the door but now he's standing by the new laser card checker.. rather than holding a barcode gun

Visited Sam's Club on Company Visitation Day. Bought a Washer & Drier 25 years ago.
They are still working. Our Company manufacture things for them. Went back a few times.
It was very cold mid-October that fall.

I think the thing most don't understand is that Costco offers you the Costco Citi Bank card. You can use that card everywhere you go (Restaurants, gas stations, hardware stores, airlines, and everywhere else). You earn money from every purchase you make, and then pay the balance off each month.

At the end of the year, Costco cuts you a check for all your money earned (Mine has never been less than $250, and is currently at $257, and half the year still ahead), and you can either spend it shopping at Costco, or go in and buy a $10 item (Or nothing at all), and they pay you the rest in cash. That's a minimum of $250 of free money for shopping at places I would normally go to anyway.

The way I see it is, I save enough with Costco's low prices alone to pay for the membership. The big bonus check at the end of the year is simply a free gift. I have never paid a dime of interest on that charge card in the last 16 years, and they have paid me a bundle. Some things may seem to good to be true, but this one is the real deal.

We have the Costco credit card and get a percentage back from using it. This summer we had enough to purchase a greenworks 80 volt lawnmower for less than $300. Regular price $900. We pay as many things as possible on it so we get a percentage back. Some credit cards also give an extra years warranty.

We buy or petrol at Costco ,it was 40 cents a Ltr cheaper than other petrol outlets
Filled up there yesterday it was $1.62 a Ltr others were over $2 a Ltr

We have a card each , we got when we joined as soon as it opened 9 years ago .

Copied this part of family membership rules for Australia .

A free household card is available to a primary cardholder’s spouse, domestic partner or immediate family member over the age of 18 and living at the same address. You must only provide the householder member's details where you have their consent to do so. Household cardholders will be asked to present proof that they live at the same address as the primary cardholder.
