I second that assertion. Tho not all of them equally so. Not only are they the best 'trap', they become a deterrent. Our youngest cat, my petite female mostly silver tabby Mirabel, has proved the most effective deterrent by being so good at catching and eviscerating mice. Tho it usually requires one or two most recent generation mice coming in when weather turns cold each fall before rest of them catch on.
Many years ago, my mother saw a mouse run across the kitchen of the old house we lived in. A neighbour told her that you can never just have one mouse, there must be a nest, best get a cat.
Here's some interesting gadgets the police have:On a slightly different tangent.......I was thinking that somebody needs to invent a device that would immobilize fleeing automobiles, being pursued by Police cars. The current practice of using the PIT maneuver causes crashes and sometimes results in deaths of the fleeing driver and passengers after the fleeing vehicle crashes into the ditch. It is dangerous, but some times the PIT is the only way to stop a pursuit.
My idea...A vehicle version of the Taser electronic device that uses electricity to temporarily scramble the central nervous system of an attacking person. The vehicle being pursued by Police would be "shot with a target dart from close range" that would electrically disable the vehicle's electronic system,. causing the engine to stop working. A huge dose of electricity flowing through the electronic system. I think this could work, but at 78 years of age, I am not the guy to make it a reality.
I envision a package that could be mounted on the front grill of a Police patrol car, that would be activated by the Police driver. The dart would be propelled by a small explosive charge, and the dart would be a magnet device that attaches to the rear of the target vehicle, and it would have a built in battery that would deliver a high level electrical charge to the vehicle's computer/engine control system to disable it.
Obviously, I am not an electrical Engineer, but somebody with more knowledge than I have could design a device like this. Think of the application around the world ? Police in every country would be the potential buyers of such a thing, as Police chases are a universal event.
Anybody have suggestions about this idea of mine ? JIMB In Toronto.
I watched the entire video stream. The only device that even comes close to my idea was the "vehicle tagging system" that fires a GPS marker that attaches to a fleeing vehicle. It does not stop the subject vehicle, it only tracks it's location. Some of the other products are ones that I was all ready aware of, like the entangler device that traps the rear tire of a fleeing vehicle. It has been around for a number of years, but the number of units sold is very small. To me that indicates that Police agencies don't see it as being effective, or perhaps the cost is too high. Some police agencies have money, some don't. I recall a gadget from a few years ago that could be deployed to fry the electronics in a fleeing vehicle. I'll post a link if I can find one. Oh wait, I think this is it: https://www.police1.com/police-prod...ar-electronics-at-50-meters-EY9nwV48RxoMhcdp/I watched the entire video stream. Nathan. I looked at that British company . They first did a demo of their system in 2013, for the British security forces, as a way to stop suicide bomber's vehicles. Now in 2024, they still don't have a device that is being marketed to any one. Their system uses low band radar microwaves. Thanks for the link. JIM.Some police agencies have money, some don't. Yes if the vehicle has, for instance the GM ONSTAR system, it can be tracked. BUT my idea is for vehicles that are being chased BY Police, that won't stop. I think you can see the difference, right ? JIMB.I don't have any ideas regarding older cars & trucks. But newer ones are now equipped with GPS tracking and the ability to be shut off remotely. If your car is stolen you call, and it will be tracked and disabled from running.
