...here volunteer?.. Do you now or have in the past.
Did you enjoy it ?
Did you enjoy it ?
That's fabulous, I've always wondered about playing music in care homes etc.. thinking I might do it, but I'd need to scrub up a bit on my playing.. so they don't throw cabbages at me lol...I started volunteering in my 20s, playing acoustic music (with a violinist, and a mandolin player) in retirement homes. A few years later, living rurally, I volunteered with a local food-buying club... we ordered bulk quantities of natural & organic foods from a co-op in Vancouver, and distributed it among the buying club's member households.
There was a lot of informal and unscheduled volunteerism in the rural community I'd moved to, to varied to list, actually. In the last seven years, I've been a volunteer board member of a conservation & restoration river-stewardship group.
Having worked with great people, I've enjoyed all of my volunteering.
What is "hot"?I have volunteered for organizations but got sick of having regular commitments and often you have the same kind of drama as working. So I quit for a few years.
But now I have been on the hoa board for 3 years and am now the president. There’s been plenty of drama and issues. I also joined a senior citizen advisory board a year ago and have a year left on my term. I won’t be renewing because of issues it’s having. If I’m going to be annoyed I want to get paid.
I did that too. That was in the late 70s.I volunteered with a local food-buying club... we ordered bulk quantities of natural & organic foods from a co-op in Vancouver, and distributed it among the buying club's member households.
Our club was buying bulk foods from a co-op called Fed Up, in Vancouver. Did you deal with them? or know about them?I did that too. That was in the late 70s.
That’s so long ago, I haven’t a clue what it was called. It was good food at good prices. Our club was buying bulk foods from a co-op called Fed Up, in Vancouver. Did you deal with them? or know about them?

I'm hoping if I do get to move into a busier area than where I am now, there will opportunities for volunteering..
that is so true about the same drama that you get when you're being paid...it's just not worth the hassle most of the time..I have volunteered for organizations but got sick of having regular commitments and often you have the same kind of drama as working. So I quit for a few years.
