Straw or no straw?

If you have to have a colonoscopy, consume that drink fast using a straw. You’ll hardly notice how bad it is.

When I had eye surgeries, I had to be face down for up to 12 days so needed them to drink. Fortunately, I’d saved a stash of straws. Never thought I’d need them

To me this is a purely academic question. Why? The highly criminal and idiotic European Union has forbidden the sale of plastic straws since July 3, 2021. The German state has even created a website
Strohhalm Verbot - Alle Informationen zum Strohhalmverbot 2021
(ban of straws)

If I could, I'd use a straw.

Australia has banned sale of them too. Not sure if it is all states but it is at least some of them

Good move IMO - the less unnecessary disposable plastic items the better.

No I dont use straws.

and plastic straws are banned here now so places give you a paper straw - which goes soggy and yuck very quickly

You don't have to stop using straws, there are alternatives to plastic and paper straws. Try reusable stainless steel straws with silicone tips or all silicone straws. They come in various lengths and diameters, straight or bent, and most sets come with a cleaning brush. You can check them out on Amazon. 🙂

How do you drink a milkshake? Do you use a straw? Or now straw?

Personally I use a straw.

Lol. :) I rarely use straws or drink milkshakes or malteds, but in the past, whether at Carvels or a neighborhood diner, they were served with a straw, which I always used and never thought twice about. I'm a very manly woman you know and never let a straw indicate otherwise. ;)

The whole plastic straw pogrom was long ago debunked when it was traced back to a social media idiot. Every alternative but doing without was found to produce more waste and/or harbor bacteria and molds.

No, paper straws would not use more waste and would not harbour bacteria - since they too are disposable. and of course break down much better than plastic
Limiting disposable plastics use is better all round.

Re usable straws are usually dishwasher safe - if they are washed properly, they are fine.

But I'm just as happy without a straw so I dont use any replacement either

No straw -- unless you're using a piece of garden hose (completely cleaned out, of course). The rubber in the hose can be nasty if you don't do a good job of cleaning it out beforehand, so if that's the case, go back to Plan A -- no straw. And get used to a milk shake mustache. It's really not that bad. :)

I usually ordered a vanilla malted. Straw? It really made no difference.
