Four Dead In Georgia High Schoo Shooting

Apparently it was only 30 minutes between the call from his mother until he started shooting, no-one either looked for him in that time, or if they did they couldn't find him. The mother apparently immediately jumped in her car and started the 3 hour drive to the school, and just 30 minutes in, she heard the news on the car radio
30 minutes is a long time, in this case 4 lifetimes. His name should have been loudly proclaimed over the loudspeaker. Every effort, every available adult, should have been drafted. Obviously not made. This ball of fire dropped.

oslooskar, Come Home, you've been gone too long! :ROFLMAO:

Thanks, but no thanks! I want to avoid becoming entangled in the prevailing mass insanity that seems to characterize the current socio-political climate there. So, I think I'll just keep my distance from the turmoil and preserve my peace of mind and mental stability, which I believe are best maintained by remaining an expatriate.

If the so called dad bought the gun and there had been a previous investigation, and since the shooter was a minor, how come the so called dad's name didn't ding on the back ground check? This seems like a really big hole that got dropped through.

I have been to Bangkok and no plans to return. Our hotel room was ransacked twice, before we changed hotels and I was pickpocketed three times. Thankfully, I only carry travelers checks and I use a belt with a hidden pocket to hide bills and checks. I also had a knife pointed at me trying to rob me, but a local plain clothed policeman stopped the attack and apologized as he hauled the culprit away. I tipped the cop $20 just to see if he would take it and he did. Was I scammed by these two men? Maybe.

Other than that, I though it was a beautiful place and we enjoyed all the cool colored lights at night. Downtown Bangkok at night was wild when we were there with all the street parties and clubs. Of course, we were 20 years younger back then.

Back in the 1960s when I was a young man, I hitchhiked all over Thailand and never had a problem. Maybe it was because I was wearing a backpack and the local thieves figured I was not worth robbing. Anyway, I find the Thais to be exceptionally polite and respectful people with well-behaved children.

Wasn't he in a new school? So, he had no grudge against anyone yet, I suppose. What a sickening situation. Too bad the families of the dead can't sue the FBI for not keeping tabs on this young nutcase.
Well, as I recall from the news, the boy was in a new school -- it was his second day of school. The FBI and the sheriff's department had a problem - there was no evidence that Colt made the threats on Discord in May 2023. There was nothing to arrest or detain him for. Also, at the time, I am pretty sure I read he lived in a different county. His current school probably knew nothing about it.

This is all from memory of what I read in the news online.

So, I read a book yesterday about the fox study in Siberia that has gone on since the 50s. It was fascinating. I thought about how some humans really are vicious towards those of their own species, and I was surprised. Of course, no one is going to do a long term experiment to evolve humans into more domesticated creatures.

"Domesticated silver foxes are the result of an experiment which was designed to demonstrate the power of selective breeding to transform species, as described by Charles Darwin in On the Origin of Species.[5] The experiment explored whether selection for tame behavior produced dogs from wolves. Only the tamest members of each generation were allowed to breed, and the changes in the population were recorded. Many of the descendant foxes became both tamer and more dog-like in morphology, including displaying mottled or spotted fur."

Still, even though humans kill more humans, by far, than anything except mosquitoes, it is disheartening to think that of all mammals, we are the #1 killers of our own kind. List of deadliest animals to humans - Wikipedia

It is worse to see that, aside from mosquitoes, nothing else comes even close. Plus, the humans killing humans figures are about homicides, and don't include wars and other non-homicidal events).

Most school shooting are so full of holes that they resemble Swiss cheese! For some reason the FBI knew about the potential for this, but did nothing. Seems a common thing for some reason.

Before anyone says anything like-well they can't arrest or detain someone for something they haven't done-Ha, take a look around the world. And yes you can. If there is reasonable cause for detainment and investigation, law enforcement can detain you without arrest for an allowable time under the law.

I'm not trying to be insensitive at all, but all the recent school shooters have been uh, um, how do I say without saying...ah, there are people who identify as a certain segment of society that is not the majority. Not saying that's the reason, just saying. It just came out recently that the last 8 shooters have been on forums and identified as the above segment of society.

Whoo, that was tough.

Back to the Apalachee school shooting:

"A 10-minute call was placed from Marcee Gray’s phone to the school at 9:50 a.m., the Washington Post reported. Police were notified of the shooting around 10:20 that morning, CNN previously reported."

So Colt's mother had figured out something was going to happen and called to warn the school.

If you get a text from you're son, and it's too words, "I'm sorry". And the next thing you do is call the school to report an "extreme emergency", that indicates you have a good idea what your son had in mind. That kid had a known history. It also means buying the kid an AR15 assault rifle was irresponsible.

Depending on the state, at a gun show, anyone can buy whatever you want and the only background check and restriction is having the cash.

The grandfather of suspected school shooter Colt Gray says he was 'punching holes in doors' and threatened to 'f*** him up' two weeks before opening fire on students and teachers at Apalachee High School, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Charlie Polhamus, 81, the former world champion pole vaulter, blames the 14-year-old's father Colin Gray, 54, for the teenager's September 4 killing spree, calling him a 'narcissist' who got into 'physical altercations' with Colt.

Gray's maternal grandfather claims that Colin, who has been charged in connection with the school shooting, 'ruined' the teenager – saying he needed 'a more supportive environment'.

'He's a full-fledged narcissist and he finally getting what he deserves', Polhamus told DailyMail.com.

Polhamus blamed Colt's father for his actions, but said that his grandson would have to be punished for the shooting.
Polhamus said Colt 'didn't have any guidance', and he was allowed to watch whatever he wanted on TV and the internet when staying with his father.

He confirmed that Colin and his daughter Marcee had a tumultuous relationship, branding her estranged husband as a 'narcissist' and 'evil.'

Public records show that Marcee spent time in jail as recently as this past April and was banned from contacting Colin without a third-party intermediary.

Marcee, 43, has a record across four Georgia counties dating back to 2007 and includes drug use, domestic violence and property damage, as well as civil claims of fraud.

But Polhamus says that his daughter – and Colt – were targeted by Colin who 'berated and hollered' at the pair, as well as 'beating' his son.
Georgia 'shooter' was 'punching walls' weeks earlier, grandfather says

Everybody is beating up on the parents of this kid. I do think the dad was stupidly irresponsible. But I don't think we're talking about Beaver Cleaver, here. Most average kids don't fantasize about blowing out the brains of their classmates for fame and glory. While his parents may not have provided an ideal family life, the kid, himself, is the one who, plotted and pulled the trigger. He's the one person, who saw the death, and maiming as he shot, he knew exactly what he was doing, and didn't try to stop. Psychopaths can be born to "good' families as well as others.

well if you read my post above even the grandfather is blaming the parents..

Well it's Colt's mother's father, who is blaming Colt's dad for everything. It's natural the old man would be on his daughter's side and ready to blame Colt's dad for Colt turning out bad. It couldn't be his daughter's alcoholism and long rap sheet that had anything to do with it. Oh no. Neighbor's remember the mother locking all her kids outside all night.

As soon as he called Colin a narcissist I quit listening to him. It's the all purpose meaningless arm chair psychologist's disease of the hour.

Yeah, that's pretty much when I stopped, too... all the blame on his son-in-law and none on his daughter with the lengthy criminal record. Must be some mighty strong bad blood flowing there.

The grandfather went on to say....

He claims that he and his wife Debbie were forced to rescue their daughter from Winder, Georgia, where Colt and Colin had been living, after he removed her from rehab two weeks ago.

he said: 'We had her in rehab, and two weeks ago he went up there for a family weekend and took her back up to Winder with the kids.

'She wasn't supposed to be there (in Winder). She was in that house with him and Colt, and we went to get her.

'I made a comment that there were holes in the doors and walls, and she said it was Colt.

'As we left Colt came out of the door and started walking down the steps, so I turned to go back to see him, but he said to me: 'I'll f*** you up.'

'My daughter and my wife told me to leave it, and again it just shows the environment that he is in. Marcee said he was just showing off.

'They had a bunch of guns in gun cases, but they weren't locked. If you're going to have them lock them away. But he's not responsible.

'Colt is a good kid. Both Colt and Marcee would be fine people today if it weren't for Colin Gray. You walk into a barn, you come out with s*** all over you.

89442595-13829797-Colt_was_introduced_to_weapons_by_his_father_who_claims_he_took_-a-29_1725891649617.jpg

Colt was introduced to weapons by his father, who claims he took him hunting out of fear he could be caught up in a school shooting and unable to defend himself. Colt is pictured in January 2023 with a 450 Bushmaster AR-15 semi-automatic rifle that he used to kill a deer

When asked about his daughters long criminal history, Polhamus again blamed her husband, claiming she was 'forced' to go and buy him drugs for his pain medication addiction.

'That's how it started with her', he added. 'He made her go to get the drugs for $30 a pill because he had back problems, and the doctors wouldn't give him any more. It's a messed up situation.'

During the incident in November 2023, Marcee was arrested in Barrow County for keying the words 'abuser' and 'liar' into her estranged husband's truck.

Her father admitted that she had tied her 78-year-old mother to a chair two days earlier at their family home in Fitzgerald, Georgia, around 200 miles from Winder.

Court documents state that she threw her mother against a wall, taped her hands and feet to keep her from leaving and broke a bathroom mirror in the woman's home.

'She tied her to a chair and left her there, and told her she wanted to kill Colin,' he admitted. 'Marcee didn't want her mother stopping her, but she never assaulted her.'

Reports from Ben Hill County Sheriff's office show that Marcee was arrested in December and charged with aggravated battery on a person over 65, criminal trespass and false imprisonment.

But her father insists that authorities are going to drop the charges after speaking to his wife Debbie, who explained her daughter never hurt her.

'She was a top ten student, all four years of high school, graduated number one at Georgia Southern', Polhamus explained.

'She's a good person but she married a son of a b***h.'

well tbf..none of us know the truth yet....
Which truth do you mean, HD? I'm not sure it matters if a crappy upbringing made this kid snap or not. He killed four people and injured more... that's the truth I see. Many people (probably many right here in the forum) had ghastly childhoods but they're not in jail for murdering anyone.
