How many of us have done this,...used a knife to try and separate frozen burgers stuck together..?

Well don't do it any more.. ..this guy accidentally killed himself while trying to do it...

Barry Griffiths, 57, died in his flat in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, Wales, after knifing himself in the stomach in July last year when preparing the burger meal.

His body was not discovered until several days later with Mr Griffiths being found fully clothed on his bed at his supported living accommodation where he lived alone.

A trail of blood in the hallway, bathroom and bedroom, had initially left detectives baffled.

It was not until a post-mortem examination revealed Mr Griffiths, who had restricted use of one arm after suffering a stroke, died of a stab wound that they pieced together what was the cause of the tragedy.

Detective chief inspector Jonathan Rees told Pontypridd coroner's court on Monday: 'My thought process favoured the wound had been caused by an accident solely involving Mr Griffiths.

'The bottom drawer of the freezer had been left open and pulled forward in a position to access food items.

'On the work surface in the kitchen adjacent to the fridge freezer were two uncooked burgers, a knife and a tea towel.

'The wound to the abdomen would have been approximately the height of the work surface. My hypothesis at that stage was that Mr Griffiths was attempting to separate frozen burgers using a knife.'

Guilty. In fact, while I was doing this very thing last week, I thought "you're gonna really poke yourself sometime." It's not just burger patties... I'll need to think of a better way.

You can see how it would have happened tho'... Having only the use of one hand, he would have probably steadied the burgers against his stomach on the counter.. and then stuck the knife into them with the blade facing towards him, and they've obviously split much quicker than he was expecting..

Talking of freak accidents, here's another tragic one from today....

A vulnerable patient died after he fell through a roof and landed inside a hospital catering oven, an inquest has heard.

Craig Smith was being treated at Kettering General Hospital when he absconded from a ward on September 7.

Staff searched the hospital for Mr Smith and found his body inside a catering oven.

An inquest heard he had fallen through the roof of the catering department and landed inside the large metal cooker.

Opening the inquest at The Guildhall in Northampton, Northamptonshire's senior coroner Anne Pember said: 'Craig Smith died on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Kettering General Hospital.

He was extremely vulnerable. They did a thorough search of the hospital and a search of his home address.

'It was not until just after 4am that a roof was found with a hole in it. He had fallen into the kitchen below into a large oven.'
