But it’s not just a Canadian problem, with similar rates of misidentification seen in the United States and globally. Researchers in Hawaii had similar findings to Calgary’s, with one in five products in a 2020 study found to be mislabeled.

We in the states have also been seeing a lot of recalls of unsafe food with an awareness of problems at one meat production plant that had been ongoing. Where is the FDA? We are having too many recalls after people are harmed or dying.

I just sent this to my son and BFF. There are only a couple of kinds of fish my son will eat and salmon is one of them. That they can make another fish look pink like salmon is outrageous. Hopefully the taste will reveal the fraud. The point about pregnant women who should avoid high mercury content getting fish that could indeed contain too much mercury is a perfect example of why this practice is so egregious. I've always said the FDA (U.S.) does not have our backs, so who knows if the practice will be curtailed here.

Those Tilapia-type fish, including something called Swai are mysterious. I read once that people are not really sure what they are. Very tightly farmed in the Mekong Delta, or at least they were. I wouldn't touch them.

I read something about Tuna, Albacore is a very large fish and contain more mercury than Skipjack (wild) and used to cost more than Skipjack. Yesterday I saw Slipjack higher priced than Albacore.

FDA stands for F*cked Up Dopes and A$$holes. They couldn't care less.
