Alberta town dedicates Model T Ford so seniors can get around

Getting around can be difficult for some seniors, but the Tofield Golden Club is helping with that, using a 2024 Model T.

The Golden Club is a seniors centre in Tofield that recently acquired a new electric vehicle that's a replica of the Model T Ford that was originally produced between 1908 and 1927.

That has to be just about the dumbest idea I have heard of this month. The "car " has no windows, and no heater. This is in Alberta, which is the Canadian Province with the greatest number of oil and natural gas wells in all of Canada. The "car " was built in China and it is electric battery powered. At the most, this "car " will not be used for 7 months of the year, which we Canadians call "The Winter ". Somebody paid $30K for this thing. This is a prime example of stone age thinking. Pay for a vehicle that will not be used in cold snowy weather.

I bet one of the local used car dealers could have gone to the auction and bought a 10 passenger window van at wholesale price, and DONATED it to the town as a gesture of good will. I would also bet that Petro Canada, or Esso, or the local Co -Op gas bar would donate fuel for it, too. But no. Somebody talked them into this dumb idea, because the Model T looks "cute". Idiots.

Keep the batteries away from salt water.
This town is in the Province of Alberta, which is at least a thousand miles away from the Pacific Ocean. As I previously pointed out this windowless vehicle is not going to be used during our Canadian winter so the chances of it being exposed to "salt water " is pretty low.

It must be one of those Chinese long wheel base, 6-seat (8 at a squeeze), "real imitation" knock-off replicas. With period inaccurate front disc brakes. (rotors)

Perhaps the passengers should be grateful it only has a top speed of 30km/h (around 19mph). Hope they don't freeze to death on the way.
