Canada beats U.S. on American soil for first time since 1957

Soccer? Does any American really care about losing to Canada in soccer? I certainly won't lose any sleep over it.
I have never understood the fascination that most of the world has for that sport. The World Cup championship comes up every 4 years and while people don't go ga-ga over it in the States like in Germany (where I witnessed that craziness more than a few times), apparently it's growing in popularity.

When I was a kid, there were a handful of sports in which to participate: baseball (my favorite); American football; basketball; ice hockey; and for the truly diabolical, tennis and track & field. Not much else, though Florida has a following of jai alai.

Yeah, I know there are a lot more sports out there - skiing, for example. Snowboarding is a more recent winter sport. Turn any activity into a competition, and you have a sport.

In the Olympics, I'd really like to see the tug of war make a comeback!

Soccer is growing in popularity in the U.S. I don't quite understand why. Run back and forth for 90 minutes for a 1-0 score or a 1-1 tie, and settle the result with a kicking contest. Oh well, I'm sure U.S. football is incomprehensible to most of the rest of the world. Interesting that basketball is growing so fast around the world, though.

Soccer is in my opinion extremely slow and that is why I can't really watch it. The same can be said for baseball for me. Ice Hockey and American Football seem to have more action going on and I will from time to time watch that with my husband. I am more a classic movies or Hallmark Movie Channel Girl.
