Are you a junk collector?

Do you go to yard sales? How about swap meets? Flea markets? Auctions? Do you buy "useful" stuff from dollar stores? And do the things you buy land up in junk drawer, or out in the shed? Are you a "junk" collector?
 

I’m in recovery but I will always be a junk collector at heart.

Some say that it is common for the youngest child to become a scavenger/hoarder due to all of the hand me downs, broken toys, etc…

I’m the youngest and when I was starting out I couldn’t afford much more than food so I got most of my household goods off the curb.

I'd like to say "no" because I hate junk and clutter but I have a weakness, I love to fix mechanical things. If I see something with an engine or motor I'm probably going to drag it home and try to fix it, then give it away so it's not cluttering up my barn. If I can't fix it I'm good about getting rid of it.

So I may not "collect" junk, but I do bring junk home.
 
I don't stop at many sales anymore now that I have a much smaller home. My mom and I used to make a weekend of "garagesaleing". When she passed in 2006, I was left with a 2500 sq ft house filled with her acquisitions, which, of course, nobody wants anymore.

I'll only stop at a sale if I happen to see one and I am not in a hurry and it looks like they have interesting items (I don't waste time with heavy equipment or baby clothes sales). Now I still collect animal figurines, mostly cats.

However, I still have a lot of "residual" things from mom's and several other relative's estates.

Oh man, if you have offspring, please don't leave them items you don't need, use or want or of sentimental value to them. :sneaky: I lugged 6 quarts at a time, out of a total 174 quart jars, of my deceased parents old canned fruit & vegetables up from their basement, out the kitchen door, and down porch steps to their garage. On I think the 12th trip up the basement steps, I suddenly snapped out of a fugue I'd apparently gone into by then. My stepfather had told me he had asked the Salvation Army to take them, but they couldn't accept home canned goods. (I did NOT want them). Dang it! He was at the time strong enough to have taken them to the junk yard!

I used to frequent flea markets. I picked up some posters, now framed, but my favorite find was a sampler, found by the seller rolled up in a quilt. I had it framed, and it makes me smile every day. The stitching is exquisite, strawberry border, birds, houses, flowers, and the following text…
