Automakers are starting to eliminate AM radios from cars????????

Automakers are starting to eliminate AM radios form cars (FM radio will stay). There are bills in Congress to require AM radios in cars. What do you think?

Personally, I listen to SiriusXM- the oldies on 73. I have a few FM stations entered in my car radio. No AM stations. I think the last time I listened to AM radio was in the early 70s.

Actually automakers are dropping satellite radio. HD AM and HD FM are still included here on 2025 models. They can also play from USB drives and phones or even directly from Internet sources if you have a data plan on the car or a WiFi connection to a hotspot or nearby access point.

Who the heck pays for SiriusXM any more? Does your car play Edison cylinders too? :ROFLMAO:

Interesting. I have a 2019 truck, I'm sure it has audio/sound equipment; couldn't say if it has AM or not, I never use the head unit for anything but Bluetooth to connect phone for text & calls, plus Google Maps voice navigation.

Yup, One of favorite Edison ditties is his rousing rendition of "Mary Had a Little Lamb".

I listen to news talk. Since KGO News Talk from San Francisco went away a few years ago, I could live without it. I just like listening to talk more than music when I drive.

Are they doing this to reduce costs? It can't be that much cost. Where can you even buy a radio that won't pick up AM? Seems like you would have to pay extra for that just because of the rarity.

My '17 model is on the "cusp" so it still has AM/FM and a CD player but also has Apple Carplay. I listen to most everything via my phone but occasionally I will pop in an old CD. I still have a few DVD-Rs like The Best of Steely Dan that I play because they have amazing surround sound. Nice to have options.

The techs at my local garage are the only ones that use the radio in my vehicle. šŸ˜‰šŸ¤šŸ˜‚

I only turn it on to pick up emergency information during bad weather.

I also remember a few times where I was instructed to tune in an am station for instructions. I think Disney Workd was one of those places, not sure if that is done anymore.
