What do you miss from back in the day, and wish they would come back now?

I miss getting a Doctors appointment the same day.. or even the same week...

I miss so many indpendant butcher shops and greengrocers and wish we could have them back

I wish we could return to hospitals being run by Matrons instead of corporate managements...

What would you like to have back ?

I miss the freedom and solitude that was the norm when we weren't always tethered to everything and everyone with a smartphone and or the internet. The smartphone and the internet are great. I obviously wouldn't be posting here if they didn't exist. However, when there is an electrical outage like there was today here where I live, I am reminded of the quiet solitude that existed when machines weren't always wheezing and humming.

Bingo and 100% steel on target. I'd call myself a Luddite, but I can't due to an event that occurred yesterday.

I'm watching a video on my computer (not my phone -- I use my phone as a phone 99.9% of the time). All of a sudden, the power goes out. I thought, "No problem, the generator will kick on and I'm back in business after rebooting." The generator did NOT kick on, though it was supposed to.

Investigation revealed first, no power in the entire house. Second, no issues with my electrical panel. It turned out that the 7-year-old battery (which is on a charger) inside the generator didn't have enough juice to kick the generator on. OK, I take out the old battery, run to Walmart, and $150 later, I have a new battery that fits the generator's enclosure. Install the new battery and fire up the generator manually, and I'm back in business.

It was definitely uncomfortable being without power, though my systems in the house are supposed to address that problem. Freezer and refrigerator contents -- considerable investment there and I did not want to lose that stuff.

I miss people being polite, and dressing well . I hate the fact that people talk loud in the street when they're walking with friends. I hate the culture that has people swearing in public in normal conversation, and I hate that people dress so slovenly much of the time when out and about...

I always wonder at people who say they miss Bands, or a singer.. because their legacy is the music they left behind, so we don't miss them
Their music makes us miss them all the more. Case in point: Buddy Holly. I've always missed him more than any other singer or band. Mainly that he only lived to be 22 years old and he left us so much great music. And that's what makes me and other people miss him all the more. We wonder how many more great songs he might have recorded, that we would never have a chance to hear.

I don't want to make you feel old... lol.. but I am almost 70..years old.. and I was 3 when he died... :D

Many, many of them died so young. Top of my list would be Bob Marley. John Lennon, etc, etc..........."let's imagine" what those people could have produced if they lived into old age.
We don't know it. Yet the only person whose early death I regret is Giacomo Puccini.

I wish we had department stores back... we still have Malls, thank goodness... and shops... but the department stores are all but history now, with a very few left.. very few....

When I was on my staycation at the coast in July.. I was delighted to find a big department store in their Mall... I was so over the moon I actually spent an hour and a half browsing.. :D
