What have you bought recently?

When we lived in Ontario we had a regular groomer but we don’t have one here so we groom them ourselves. What is your schnauzer mixed with? Poodle? Is it a schnoodle?
No idea if he's a full schnauzer or a mix, to be honest. At about a year old, he was liberated by police and an animal shelter from a horrific dog hoarding and physically abusive situation.

Sadly, the permanent damage from beatings and other abuse is locked in his psyche. When we got him at roughly 18 months, he was avoidant and skittish beyond anything I've ever seen.

Among other abuses, he was either horribly punished for barking or wore a bark collar for so long that it dissuaded him from ever using his voice. He's been with us over two years now and has never made a sound other than occasional yips when dreaming. Our vet said the scar tissue she could feel along his back suggests he was beaten with a belt, leash, or something similar. His skittishness about ropes and leashes sure reinforces that speculation.

He's improved considerably over the last two years but progress is slow. He remains extremely wary of strangers, and highly avoidant of other dogs. Ozzy will likely never be a cuddle-bug, I'm sorry to say. That said, a big plus is that he's completely non-aggressive.

Another unexpected, happy turn of events is how tolerant Ozzy is of our toddler grandson. He seems quite fascinated by this little creature.

I spent $2.65 including tax on a new black broom 🧹 just in time for Hallowe'en🧙‍♀️🎃. Dollar Tree. Used to be I'd buy a broom there for $1. Now the bottom is $1.25, and the handle is $1.25. >le sigh<

@StarSong Sounds to me like you need adult supervision when you go to Costco. Jussayin'

We went to Aldi. I didn't spend any money, not even in the Aisle of Shame.

Well...I sort of spent money but not really. When we're there and I have $10 in cash with me, I get an Aldi gift card for $10 and put it and the receipt in the little gift envelope that I leave with the cashier with the instruction that the next person who comes through the line using SNAP benefits, gets the card. The cashier can see on the screen if the groceries are being paid for with SNAP. The register receipt is so that the recipient knows it's not a scam.

$10 isn't much in the overall scheme of things, but it's $10 that the recipient can use to buy something...maybe something for one of their kids or something for themselves...not covered by SNAP?

Thinking about getting pet stairs for Maggiecat. With her disability and her...ahem...size, it's really hard for her to jump up on the bed with me. She likes to snuggle at bedtime, but I have to lift her up and put her on the bed...she weighs a good 25lbs. Found a set on Amazon for about $40. Three steps, rise from each is only 6". Does anybody have pet stairs for their dog/cat?

Yes I have had pet steps for 20 years because Maltese are small. I have hard plastic ones.

What I bought recently wasn't for my wife or me.

It was for a homeless woman that needed 22 cents to buy a can of soup. She asked me for 22 cents, I told her that I don't carry money or change I pay with a credit card. She thanked me for talking to her. I couldn't take the sadness that was instantly generated in me by this woman.

I told her to get get a shopping cart & put in it whatever she wanted to eat. A pre made roast beef & cheese sub sandwitch. a slice of carrot cake, a bottle of orange juice was what she put in her cart. I told her to take the soup to.

Best $15.76 I've charged on my credit card in a long time.

Must be going around, ran into the same thing the other day, a Mother with three kids, one of them baby. The kids were begging for stuff, she kept hushing them, telling them she only had money for the milk.

I told her to get what basics she needed and put in my cart, just milk, eggs, bread and juice. Of course I made her get baby formula, a little one should not be on milk yet. Sometimes we just know when to help others.

We were just leaving in the car yesterday when a package arrived addressed to the lady. Frowning away she said "I haven't ordered or bought anything." On opening the parcel she discovered the four vintage dress paper patterns that she had earmarked but delayed in purchasing because of sewing machine problems.

Now she has a new sewing machine, it was quite by chance that I saw her intended purchase, so I phoned her supplier, just in case she had ordered them, or might be about to. "You spoil me," she said, "I know," I answered, "but you are worth it."

Do you want to see her pattern choice? I will show you one, and maybe, when it's been made, I will show you the end result.

Two 3 gallon water bottles. We’ve been using 5 gallon. DH hurt his arm so we’ve been filling those half full and several one gallon. Too much of a nuisance.
Do you fill them at a commercial water stand? Is your tap water undrinkable? Trying to figure out why you use the big water bottles. (I use a small countertop Britta, but the truth is my tap water is just fine.)

We refill at a commercial place. Our city water is wretched. DH tried the Brita for a week and admitted it was still awful, just a bit less awful. We do use the Brita for coffee.

Thanks for explaining. Agreed that Brita is ok but certainly not up to the task of turning wretched water into water that's pleasant to drink or even cook with.

my daughter has pet stairs for her chihuhua in fact she 's had pet stairs for every dog she's had despite their size when they got too old to jump up

I bought these turbans with pouffy things on top. But I will be wearing them to the side. I wore one when I had lunch with my granddaughter and she said I looked cute. I get so tired of trying to tie some of my scarves or do wraps, which I'm not so good at. It takes time and the desired outcome is not always guaranteed. These are comfortable and super quick options. Best part...I had paid $6 and change for just one and paid only $21.99 for 8 (they've gone up $1 since I purchased). I like the material better too.
Amazon.com

I also bought Native coconut-vanilla stick deodorant. My son told me about it since Crystal, the company that makes the deodorant I've used for years changed the formula and now it's just crappy. I hadn't used a stick deodorant in decades but I'm very happy with it

I didn't spend any money today, at least not any "real" money. Used my Kaiser healthy food card. Maggiecat needed a bigger litter box, but DD paid for it. Yay.

Wednesday is 🦅:poop: day. Rocking chair money💰. If the lord's willing and the creeks don't rise (as we used to say in Texas), there will be money left over, even after paying for DGD's Christmas present. There will even be enough to get DGS's Christmas present. And enough to give myself an allowance for the next four weeks and some for savings. I think.

Thanks for the head's up - my thirsty checking account will be glad for the replenishment.

I'm not pleading poverty here. Every late autumn I draw money from our business profits to cover supplies for cookie/pizza season supplies and Christmas gifts. We continue working partly because we enjoy it and partly to fund holiday season expenses, vacations, other extras, and to plump our savings.

Are you feeling a financial pinch from quitting your job, GG?

what are you buying DGD for Christmas? the secret service wants to know....:p

DGD is getting a little black cat pin that looks exactly like her cat, Alvin. She saw it in the jewelry store when we were in one day last month for her and DD to get their rings cleaned. It's kinda spendy, but she really liked it. Gotta go with something that will be well received.

DGS is getting...a mailbox. LOL The one in front of his house is so ratty and old that he'll probably get a letter from the post office soon telling him that it's too rickety to keep using and to replace it. He's getting one of those big ones, including the mounting post, because he has roommates who all get their mail there, too. Mailbox. Inspired, right? Might even give him some Quikcrete for sinking the post into.
