Reflections of My Life

I got rid of a bag of clothing from my closet yesterday. I didn't look at it while I put it in the bag. It was beautiful stuff but I hadn't worn any of it since I moved here. I have got to get tough with myself and empty closets, dresser drawers, cupboards and the storage locker. The one thing I draw the line at is my curio cabinet. My cat collection! I don't know, maybe have to buy a coffin big enough for all of them, my 2 baby dresses and my dolls too! I am too sentimental.
I still have loads of clothes that need to be donated, especially coats and jackets... I'm held back because like yours they are really nice jackets, and coats but they're now too small... I've held onto them in the hope I'll lose the weight and fit back into them again.. but they're all taking up too much space now.. this is one I really have held onto for far too long because I love it.. but it really has to go...I'll have to do what you did and close my eyes..

I love this picture of you! Pretty car too!

This morning the elevator buttons for up and down were both lit up. During the night I heard it being used a lot. So don't know if it was working or not. Seems like when it is said to be not working and that you could get stuck in it people use it more than ever. A little while ago I looked out the window and the manager's car is here. I looked out the door and the buttons are off now and no sign on it. Maybe it is working again.

I have a busy day planned. Will make up for the last few days when I didn't do much of anything. I just placed a grocery order which should be here sometime between 11 - 1. I had to get the ingredients to make the Loaded Broccoli Casserole for our potluck supper on Friday. Plus my bunny boy is already needing more bananas. I got way behind on my laundry again...........so will be doing that today for sure (unless the elevator breaks again). I am promising myself from now on to do little loads more often. It is too much for me anymore doing larger loads. I will only take down one small basket at a time today. If I don't do it all in one day, I can do it tomorrow.

I wonder why every time I have an appointment that I have to walk to the weather has to threaten rain? The forecast says rain at 10 but just gray and cloudy after that. So I will hope that is right. It is bad enough walking but if it rains or pours it will be very difficult. I can't miss this appointment........foot doctor! You know how weird toenails get as we get older for some reason.

I have on my mind to empty out three drawers in my dressers. Then what? Maybe take clothing out of one of the closets and put it in those. I would like to make room in one of the closets for household supplies or a few small appliances. Not sure yet. Plus I have the storage locker to work on too. I want to empty that out also. I don't even know what all I have down there.

The thing is that when someone dies here and if their family members do not want their stuff it goes right into the dumpster. Some on the free table. But if no one takes it then out to the dumpster. I would rather put it in the dumpster personally first. I don't want someone else's hands on my stuff.

Today I updated ubuntu and Google Chrome. I kept having trouble with it but finally watched a YT video on it and was able to do it. It worked so far. I am also not comfortable with AI stuff and will admit I do not understand it. But I use Google Chrome for a browser and don't really want to change. So I guess I will just have to adjust to whatever it does or it means. If Google is using it I am sure they all will be or all ready are.

I am getting ready to leave for my doctor appointment and yes, I will be walking in the rain. Hopefully, it won't pour. I have not mastered the art of using a walker and an umbrella at the same time yet.

The internet has everything! 😉🤭😂

I made it to and from my doctor's appointment yesterday without getting rained on. Actually it was a nice walk. A nice appointment too. My friend who used to be the manager in our building when I moved here works there. We did some catching up while the doctor was working on my feet. They are a couple and have a son so they were telling me all the crazy moments of having a seventeen year old.

The company I buy my electrolytes from sent me a surprise gift yesterday! I saw I had a package delivered and knew I hadn't ordered anything so went down to get it and saw a black box. I knew then who it was from since they have a signature box. They sent 15 packages of various chocolate ones! Chocolate salt is one of the ones I order regularly. I drink it like hot cocoa and it is as good. Has stevia in it. Not many companies do that and they do it about twice a year. Last time they sent me an 8-pack of their sparkling water ones.

Today my water delivery comes so have to plan for that. As well as doing more laundry. I swear once I get caught up on that I will not let it pile up again!!!!

I made a mistake on the potluck supper...........it is not this Friday, but on a Monday, the 28th. I thought I made it for a Friday but must be I put the wrong date on the sign up paper. So I have more time to plan. I am going to clean the community room because it has not been cleaned in a bit and I want it to be inviting.

Kat, it must be challenging to live in a studio as they don’t hold much. When I downsized to my 2 bedroom 855 sq ft condo I had to get rid of so much stuff. I have 3 closets and my son installed closet organizers so they would hold more. I got rid of 3/4ths of my clothes.

My son in Vietnam has about a third of one closet with his tools because he’s a IT person in the states so he needs them if he comes back. My little dogs require closet space for food, treats, bedding, etc. I did consider a studio but my son had me measure out the size in my house and I realized it was just too small for me and the dogs plus I still entertain frequently which I couldn’t do.

It was an adjustment for sure. I had always lived in a house except for a short period when I rented a two bedroom apartment. One of those bedrooms was only for my exercise equipment and clothing. So when I moved here I had a lot of stuff. It is only 338 sq. feet so very small. It doesn't really feel small though due to the very high ceilings and huge windows.

I have 2 closets and they are organized but packed. I am presently working on getting rid of stuff that I do not use from them. I figure it forces me to do this. One closet has a very large box of hay for my bunny which takes up most of the floor space. Which I know when he is gone (he is old in rabbit years now) I will have much more space not only in that closet but the whole apartment. He has a lot of areas. I think my apartment would be too small for a dog unless it was a very tiny dog.

You know I was thinking about that thread about living where you do not need a car. Sometimes people don't need a car but they have it in their head they do because they want to get everywhere real fast. When I was a teenager my family lived in Flagler Beach. We were just on the edge of the city limits. We were one mile from the beach and every morning I would walk there and then back in the afternoon. There was a grocery store and a post office within walking distance. I passed both on the way to the beach. I am sure it all different now.

When I was about 20 I lived in the city of Binghamton and didn't have a car. Jeff was a baby and I had a carriage and a stroller and would walk from my apartment to downtown. It was safe back then and easy walking to wherever I had to go. I had no thought about getting a car. I could not have afforded one anyway.

Now at my age, 72, I know walking is not something to be taken for granted. If I was physically able to walk everywhere I wanted to go I would be so happy. I am fortunate lately when I can walk out to the dumpster. Like today, it was a beautiful day but I just could not go outside. I will make the extra effort tomorrow to do so. I used to race walk and would run up and down the local high school football stadium bleachers. I loved it.

Here the one grocery store that is fairly close, walking distance for most people, but not me is the more expensive one. Walmart is the farthest away, outside the city and hard for people without a car to get to. Beyond the sidewalks and a dangerous stretch of road. I do have the bus available and need to start using it more often. I like using it actually. It makes grocery shopping easier.

The bus system is something that I need to master before it becomes a need instead of a choice.

Learning new things, that everyone else takes for granted, makes me feel like a little kid with a nickel in my mitten. 😉🤭😂

I had taking the bus to Walmart on my list for months..........ever since I moved here. Then last fall my friend downstairs and I decided to do it. It was a piece of cake! We enjoyed it. It was only 50 cents each way so very affordable.

Cold, but sunny morning. The kind of start to my day that I like best. I am running late again today. Usually I have had my shower by now but I chose to drink my 2nd cup of coffee first. So here I am!

I am not going to say what I will be doing today. Just chores nothing exciting. Best to wait till it is a done deal. Otherwise I don't do it.

I am still watching videos on YT about the hurricanes. There has been many heartwarming stories of rescues of pets. Some sad because their owners did not make it. One that moved me to tears was when the owner fastened his dog to a post before the hurricane. Thankfully the dog was rescued and his owner found and charged! That dog has been named "Trooper" and will be up for adoption. For now he is in a foster home and doing good so far. He reminds me of the Bud Light mascot, Spuds Mackenzie.

Yesterday, when I went out to the dumpster I ended up sitting in the sunshine for awhile. Talking to others out there. When I came back inside to take the elevator it was not working! I most definitely don't want to be stranded downstairs. If I am in my apartment I can live with that for awhile. One of the guys, my next door neighbor, went in the maintenance room and fixed it. Then he rode upstairs with me just in case. It worked and I got home.

Later my friend called me and she said it was turned off so nobody could use it. One of the guys called the elevator company and the repairman cannot come until Monday. So no elevator all week-end. It would be okay but I am low on bunny food. Seems like as soon as the weather gets cool he starts chowing down even more. He will have to make do with what we have. Enough banana for today but tomorrow and Monday he won't have any. It won't kill him to go without it. We have hay and that is 80% of his diet.

If it isn't one thing it is another. Now I see why people say that. Happens to me all the time. This is why Rabbit is my last pet. I love him dearly and will be miserable when he is gone but I know my life will be easier and less costly. Still I don't look forward to it. I worry constantly about him having enough food or being able to get his supplies.

Maybe you could keep some greens in the freezer for emergency?

When they thawed out they could not be like fresh ones so I doubt the would eat them. He is actually better off with hay, which I have plenty of. We will get by. The banana is a treat (which he loves more than anything) and he doesn't have to have it.
Yes. I know. I guess I was thinking of kale which tends to keep it's shape but if you can keep hay then that's better!.

You're so calm kat, what is your secret?
No secret needed. I just figure I can't do anything about this situation so no sense getting upset and stress myself out.

But this is another example of what happens if I keep putting off doing my laundry. I am lucky to have plenty of clothing and since I have no where to go today, I will just wear one of my tee shirt dresses. Comfy Saturday at home!

He LOVED kale! It was one of his favorites. Then he started having soft poop from it and I had to stop giving it to him. I tried it again after a year and soft poop again (which gets messy). Rabbits are such fragile little creatures. I keep asking God why he made them that way.
