American media trust at record low - Gallup Oct 2024

I was listening to a podcast by a fairly moderate central person who made the comment that it’s very possible that most stations that give the news 2-3 times per day will likely cut it back to only having one news show per day and some stations may discontinue having news at all.

The trend has become to get more and more world and political news, except possibly local news, from online. The weather is also available from a couple of good online meteorologists. Sports are all over the stations, so what else do we need?

I remember when CNN first came on, most people that tuned to online news turned to CNN. I don’t think there was any better newscaster than Bernard Shaw. Before Shaw on regular TV was Cronkite, Huntley-Brinkley and Harry Reasoner. All were very good.

I remember when the U.S. started Desert Storm and Bernie was on the phone talking to the audience through his telephone and a microphone. I forget who was on the other end, but they asked him where was he calling from? He said, “I’m under my bed.”

We watch ABC's World News every evening... or part of it, anyway. They'll show scenes of the latest floods or hurricane damage, and ask people how they feel about having their lives destroyed. Everything's about emotion.

The first half of the World News is watchable. The second half is almost all commercials and fluff-pieces, so we watch the News Hour after the first half, which is almost always stories about the Middle East wars and how polarized America has become, and some minority artist making a political or social statement with his or her art. In other words, it's not watchable, either.

I could easily go without watching any news on TV.

It would be more credible had he made the decision not to endorse a candidate earlier... like a year ago or more. He's worried about government contracts. That's all. It's all about money.

Still it’s nice to see a media big shot admit their culpability in regards to the news medias’s credibility problems.

If he can truly implement a centrist, unbiased (as much as humans can manage) position, he will quickly surpass the number of subscribers he’s lost this week with new ones.

American media trust at record low - Gallup Oct 2024 Not surprising, considering how much information is censored and modified for public persuasion.

The problem with Bezos' public statement is: the Washington Post readers trusted the Washington Post for their accuracy in reporting. Many have doubts now and wonder if the media outlet will be beholden to politicians over facts and spin stories for profit motivations rather than exposing wrongdoings. As a result, they're losing subscribers.

If he truly does move ideologically to the center, he’ll gain many more subscribers than he lost. So many of us are disillusioned moderates who are sick of only having left or right biased media choices. OP Gallup poll reflects that.
