What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I got through it, but it took a few days to.

I'm so cheap that even when "free with ads" I tend to get through most things to avoid feeling like I'm wasting something.

But I know the feeling. Some things are so bad or bogged down for me that I skip ahead too.
I did not connect with any of the characters, which is a big part of why I'll get invested in a show or movie. And even though I wasn't invested in the characters, I do feel like I invested a little of my time, so I'll check out the ending. Believe it or not, I started this movie more than a month ago.

That's a phenomenal film, and it was Hitchcock's most financially successful. I think it's interesting that the first part of the movie was a great film noir, but from the shower scene on it was a horror film. It was also unique to have big star like Janet Leigh killed off early in the picture.

The shower scene was one of Hitchcock's masterpieces, and it got DP John Russell an Oscar nomination. Unfortunately that scene birthed slasher movies....ugh.

What did you think of Psycho, MaidMarian?
It was on TCM tonight. I didn't watch it. I've seen it so many times before. I used to have it on a DVD box set of my 5 favorite Hitchcock movies.

Four years before "Night of the Living Dead" we got this zombie movie: The Horror of Party Beach!

Here the "living dead" came about through atomic radiation and replacement of body parts by sea creatures.

Remember, sodium is your friend!
This was a double feature with The Curse of the Living Corpse. The Horror of Party Beach has sometimes in the past been referred to as one of the worst movies ever filmed. The Curse of the Living Corpse, featured the movie debut of Roy Scheider.

That's why I find that a lot of the campy old stuff is best consumed with riffing:

To get a lot of the jokes you have to be "of a certain age" due to pop references from decades ago. It also helps to be Midwestern, for example a lot of people don't even know who Babe Winkelman was.

A lot of these films were made well outside of Hollywood too. These guys at MST3K had a lot of fun with things filmed in Wisconsin for example.

You've all made better choices than I did last night. I've been watching scary movies in the lead-up to Halloween and chose Tarot last night. Ugh! It was so formulaic. I nearly shut it off, but I paid $3.99 to rent it, and I was too stubborn.

I'll make a better choice tonight and go with something older and more established.

Wild Target (2010)is rated 6.7/10 on IMDB and is free on Tubi.
"A hit-man tries to retire but a beautiful thief may change his plans."
The movie was hilarious and had me laughing many times from the start.
I kept replaying parts of it; one of the most entertaining movies that I've seen.
I can't believe I've missed this one! I'm a big fan of Bill Nighy's, and also Martin Freeman's. Will definitely put this one on the list! Thanks for the tip!

I've seen it mucho as well. But it's so damn good, despite the dated special effects. I'm currently reading the definitive biography of the great film composer, Bernard Herrmann, and just happen to be at the point where he composed that wonderful score for the film. Who could forget that perfect music-- screeching violins, and the superb music for the ending of the shower scene. But there were so many good things in that picture. I may have to fire it up again soon... And I'm not a horror fan...

Woke up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't sleep so I watched one of my favorites, Happy Death Day; scary without really being a slasher or supernatural and funny too. The sequel to it, Happy Death Day 2U, is even good.

We watched The Cat People last night for Halloween. That was one dumb movie. :ROFLMAO:

Some of the scenes were good, though, which made it watchable. I think this character from Rocky and Bullwinkle might have been inspired by the zoo sweeper in the movie.
HH, are you talking about the 1982 film or the 1942 film?

Phantom of the Paradise is an old (1974) movie that parodies The Phantom of the Opera, 1960’s music, and the rock star production industry in general, with nods to such counterculture hits of the day as The Rocky Horror Picture Show...

When a musical composer writes a “rock cantata” based on Faust and has it stolen by a musical promoter called Swan played by Paul Williams, he winds up damaged, hiding behind an owl-like mask, speaking with an electronic voice, and becoming the titular Phantom who haunts the rock performance “palace.”

The movie was a box office failure and is a hot mess, but is enjoying a renaissance 50 years later as a cult film hit. It does have its moments, and this horror-comedy is probably unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It’s included on Amazon Prime Video…

I watched Oddity last night and enjoyed it a great deal. Very creepy!

I made the mistake of watching it in bed with the lights off. 😁

I highly recommend it for anyone who likes scary movies. It didn't have gore or gratuitous sex (or, ick, torture porn or anything like that). It was just a good, traditional ghost-type story with some really great jump scares. I may watch it again tonight.

You've answered a question I've always wondered about, KSav. I could never understand what people got out of horror movies. But it's probably like you say, they just like to be scared. Probably gets the blood going..:)

Voyagers (2021)

Artificially conceiving, gestating, raising a child crew of a generation ship. Once on it's way issues arise, violence erupts. Happy ending.

I'd hate to spoil it though there really are no twists.
