Is this Safe to eat?

I have two hamburgers frozen solid for about 15 months. Some of you may remember I basically stopped eating when my cat Buffy was sick & died. I've been wondering about those hamburgers. Are they safe to eat or should I throw them out? I want to start cooking a little again.

My new cats, Gidget & Louie climb all over my stove and I'm afraid they will get burnt but I'd really like to eat a bit more and better than I currently do. Thanks.

I'd avoid to eat them. Not that I want to say that they are harmful. But you've already asked, so you have doubts. I'd trust them. My wife and I some years ago got a meat poisening since I forgot to take some sausages out of the car (which was in the garage!) for two or three hours. And it was not even very warm. We had to stay in bed for two days. Our cat was totally scared what had happened to us. But at least I managed to get up for a short moment to feed her.

Maybe I should defrost them. In the fridge. Then smell them and look at them. Then make my decision. Or. Throw them out.

I'm cheap. Don't want to buy more unless I'm absolutely sure I will use them.

Food is so expensive. I barely eat but the last two months I've had to go into my savings to buy food.

Safe, I'd say yes because they've been frozen. But like you said, smell the meat. Freezer burned meat is pretty disgusting and that doesn't have to do with safety. It also matters how they've been wrapped... that could speed freezer burn along if not wrapped tightly with the right materials.

If I'm not sure, I throw them out. It seems like a waste, but two hamburgers aren't that much money. Frugality has it's limits for me.

Funny that you brought this up. Yesterday I opened my freezer and everything had thawed out, and the milk in the refrigerator compartment was getting warm. My refrigerator had gone on the blink again, so I started fiddling with controls... Nothing! I pulled it out from the wall to check the outlet, it was fine. I plugged it back in and pushed the thing back into place. As I was getting ready to call the repair guy, the refrigerator started running again.

But aside from that. I had several slices of frozen salmon that were now soft as mush. Google how soon salmon goes bad left unfrozen or thawed several times. That's scary. I'm throwing them out for the bears. There were also some scallops, and they're going too. I'm not rich, but I'm not poor enough to take unnecessary risks.

You haven't been cooking? That doesn't sound good. I guess it's doable, but keep your health up by all means.

Never..ever..ever take chances with fish, especially seafood...... always throw it out if it's been compromised in any way...

I've had food poisoning twice from fish... once from prawns served to me in a Pub restaurant... I was so ill that the doctor had to come to my house to give me an intravenous antibiotic several times...

The second time was from deep fried battered Cod...from a Fish and shop.... I was sick for 3 days.. I have never ever eaten take-away fish since... and that was 15 years ago...

I eat it at home but I'm always very careful about making sure it's very fresh before cooking...

We've used ground beef after it's been frozen for a long time, always less than a year though, no problem. I looked it up online, and they say it can be frozen indefinitely, it just may have a compromised texture after all that time. I personally would eat them and not worry about it. I always defrost before cooking, but just do what works best for you. Glad you are eating again, hugs for you and your kitties.

Yes, I agree, they should be fine as long as they have been frozen the entire time. It may have affected the taste or texture a little but that is about all.

Wrapped in aluminum foil, a generous amount. Wrapped tight.

Well, actually I'm not eating again, but seriously thinking about it. Wish I had this problem in my twenties. I remember getting up in the middle of the night to cook & eat spaghetti!

In all seriousness if you're contemplating cooking and eating again I'd probably start w foods that are really appetizing to spur the desire to eat. And I hope your successful in your quest.
I have left over frozen Nathan's French Fries & Onion Rings. Used to love that about once a week, cheeseburger on a nice roll with them. Had to throw out the American Cheese, although, SCARILY, the cheese held up after A Year! That, I felt, Must Go! Gross, what kind of preservative can do that? Do have some nice, fresh Swiss though.

Oooh, onion rings and cheeseburger sounds awesome! For what it's worth (not much, I know, I know 🤭 ) I made a pork tenderloin a couple months ago that I'd bought two years ago. It was fine... no freezer burn at all, though... that's what would have been the deciding factor. That smell is unmistakable.

Reminds me of the time I cleaned out the family SUV when still married, it was an absolute mess.
There was a McD's food sack with stuff still in it, had been in there a long time. I removed the wrapper and found a cheeseburger that was devoid of spoilage, but it was hard as a rock.

I was amazed, and decided to see if this sandwich was indestructable, I threw it as hard as I could against the shed, it bounced off, when I looked at it, it did not break or disfigure in any way. 🧐
