My Veterans Day Suprise-A great grandson a last 🄓

So, we planned the day out yesterday. Up early, off to Cracker Barrel for the free breakfast. 2 eggs any style, two pancakes. I had water. He had coffee. 5 bucks, breakfast for 2. They did not ā€œcardā€ us.

On the way home, stop at Krispy CrĆØme for the free donut. This business is so cheap, but my husband wants his free donut šŸ™„. We go inside, they CARD us, one plain glazed donut each. Ugh. I give mine to him, I don’t even like their donuts.

Where to go for lunch? So many choices, we usually go to Applebees. I love their hamburger. But Iā€˜ve been craving spaghetti. We go to Olive Garden. Soup, really large plate of spaghetti and meatballs for me and large chicken Alfredo for him. He gets a coke, again I have water.

The veteran next to us gets his order, asked the waiter to box it up. Says I got a cash card, I can leave you a tip. Waiter says whatever you’d like to do. Veteran leaves, no tip. We finish, we pay for husband’s coke, we pay for the beer another veteran ordered at another table next to us, and we leave a nice tip to cover all 4 meals that our waiter delivered. Free food is fine, but you need to tip!

While we are eating lunch at Olive Garden, we get a text from our son. We have 3 great granddaughters, two are his granddaughters. His oldest, the fourteen year old formerly known as Rebecca, will now be called Marvin.

What? Marvin 🤮. Absolutely no problem with the choice of sexual orientation, but Marvin? I text my granddaughter, she says I know. I tried to get him to pick another name, I hate Marvin. Actually we all hate the name Marvin. I tell my granddaughter I am pleased to have a great grandson, but I hate the name. Everyone in the family hates the name. Apparently this child does not have enough challenges in life for him to choose Marvin as a name.

So instead of 3 great granddaughters, I now have 2 great granddaughters and a great grandson.

I am now pretty dang full, cause I usually do not eat much. But free dinner awaits. In and out burger was close, brought the fries home for later.

As for the coming out, well, no one was surprised. This child was ā€œboyā€ from age three. The only surprise was it took so long for the ā€œformalā€ announcement. My son explain the pronouns I was supposed to use. I told him the reason I’d remember the name is because I hate it so much. šŸ˜‚. Those pronouns are on their on. šŸ˜‚

There is a friend and member here who very rarely posts now, who had a similar situation with one of her grandchildren... she was not phased by it at all... she just had to get used to a different name and pronoun. At the end of the day IMO... doesn't matter who they are or who they want to be if they are not hurting anyone... if they still love you and you love them..who cares...all in the rich tapestry of life...

Well at least his name will be somewhat rare…and therefore special. As are you….much happiness to you all….
Marvin's quite a common name.. I join Aneeda in disliking the name... but well the boy has to live with it, he might decide later on down the road to change it again.. currently he's going through much bigger changes.
