Christmas goodwill in department stores.

I HAVE JUST NOTICED THE GOODWILL BOXES NEAR THE CHRISTMAS TREES IN STORES NEAR MY PLACE. IN YEARS GONE BY PEOPLE COULD LEAVE WRAPPED UP PRESENTS NEAR THE TREES FOR CHARITIES TO DISH OUT TO THE POOR. NOW I'M TOLD TO LEAVE THEM UNWRAPPED AS SOME PEOPLE PUT ROTTING FRUIT AND OTHER DISGUSTING ITEMS IN THE PRESENTS. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?

My DH nearly always had a motor bike ( he had a BMW ) and we’d take part in Christmas toys runs in Adelaide
The charity always appealed to riders to buy gifts for 13~ 14 year olds

Motorcycle Riders Association of SA - Toy Run FAQ

HOWEVER ….. we were also discouraged from wrapping gifts due to some ”gift givers “ wrapping / leaving disgusting stuff in collection bins in shopping malls as a sick joke

I’m not sure if it’s my age and life experience or the times we live in but nothing surprises me.

We have similar bins here.

I always assumed that the request for unwrapped toys was an effort to match them to children based on age, gender, interest, etc…

Collection bins are everywhere from grocery stores to doctor offices. Churches and non profits outnumber adds on local TV stations. I do not
Particularly care for it that every cashier asks if I want to donate. Actually they changed it to how much I want to donate. The dialer calls for police fraternities will start by Thanksgiving.

Here in Canada Police are not going to be asking the public for donations to their Associations. You cannot buy bumper stickers or decals with a Police association emblem on it. In Canada, it is illegal to sell or wear any item of clothing that says POLICE on it, or that resembles a Police uniform. The RCMP has a world wide copyright on the image of their full dress uniform so it cannot be reproduced without actual permission from the RCMP Commissioner, in writing.

They are not selling anything but begging and aggressively so. It is not police departments but clubs/associations. I will not support sending member kids to Disney.
We have two groups we support financially - SASS Scholarship Fund and Soldiers and Sailors Homes.
