Who remembers these things back in the day ?...come and add your own memories..

These telephones were standard in France at least up into the 1960s where an additional person could listen in on the conversation:

When we went to Paris in the 1980's, the lady we were staying with handed me that contraption to listen in while calling my father back home and I just thought that was the coolest thing ever. Never forgot that and haven't seen one since.

It is such a simple and fatastic idea. I don't know if they still have them but I remember them from the 60's and I'm sure they were in use for long, long time before that.

We had a yellow one in the 1950's and 1960's. It was one of those pull out ones that had an extra section under the table.

I hadn't realized the Woolworth's was international. There were a bunch in my area growing up in the '50s in Pittsburgh. They were called "five & dimes", or "5 and 10 cent" stores because they were inexpensive. Another popular one was Kresge's (the forerunner of K-Mart). Now, instead of 5 & 10 cents stores we have Dollar Stores!!
Oh yes we had Woolworth all over the UK... they first came here in 1924... Woolies as they were affectionally known....

One of my first jobs was as a teen was as a wages clerk in Woolworth (y)

They closed the last of their branches in 2009..... everyone misses them to this day....

Nicknamed "Woolies" in the UK. In South Africa there are OK Bazaar shops but I cannot say with any certainty if they are part of the Woolworth's chain. Probably not. BTW, there are now Dollar Stores here in my country too.

There's a woman in that house. Well, it looks comfy & cosy, you don't need your slippers and it feels good under your feet ... but in such a damp environment it attracts and harbours all kinds of larvae and bacteria. If you don't remove them daily for a good clean and airing out you'll find an assortment of creepy crawlers underneath it, enough to give you nightmares.
