Simple possibly - reading / answering during a class or meeting - bad manners. Not so bad if you wait for a break and then check.
That's why I text instead of calling.

Actually, you don't need to stop what you are doing to answer the phone or to do anything else. I never answer the phone and no texting for me. I go through any and all calls at some point in the day and answer the ones to me that aren't spam.I hate getting cold-called. Phone rings and I have to put down whatever I'm doing and find out why I'm being called? Much prefer to know when to expect a call. For the same reason I try never to cold call anyone else.
I've been burned that way.Last night I received a text from a friend, and it wasn't good news. I was in the middle of trying to figure out how to reply. Just above the keyboard on my phone, there is a little bar that offers several brief one-touch responses. I accidentally bumped the one that said "That's great!" and it instantly went out. Then I had to quickly send another text to explain. NO, I do not like texting.
Exactly, I've asked this question to avid texters. I usually get a reply like, "Well, you could call, but ______________." I can't remember what they put in the blank. Whatever it was, it didn't seem worth remembering.why text when I can actually talk to someone.
