Anyone making home fruit cake?

Son & I were talking about fruitcakes while he was home.
I used to make some for my folks when they were alive.

Both sons are away ,, I don't. make any fruit cake,, hubby doesn't care for them.

I have a recipe for Pumpkin Cranberry bread,,,makes 2 loaves.

Thinking about making one loaf as a fruit cake.
Still use the cup of cranberry, with some candied pineapple,,nuts.

Rereading The recipe for the bread,,may have to change few ingredients?

I’ve never made proper fruit cake but have made pumpkin, banana, carrot, zuchinni, blueberry etc. My mom used to make traditional fruit cake every November just before Christmas. One was for Christmas , one was for new years and one was for Easter. I used to love the marzipan icing on the top. Good luck with making your fruit cake.

I've bought many Collin Street Fruit cakes through the years for my family and others for gifts, their Pecan Apricot cake is wonderful too.
My sister-in-law always made a Lemon Nut cake that had a whole bottle of lemon extract....this cake was always everyone's favorite.

Not sure if oldest son will come here for Christmas or off traveling for the company he works for.

IF I make the 2 loaves of Pumpkin Cranberry bread,,one loaf will get wrapped & put in the freezer,,,, where it may be forgotten.

That's why I'm thinking about changing the second loaf, chopped nuts,,Raisins?? candied pineapple?

Haven't noticed candied fruit in the grocery stores.

When younger, I didn't care for fruitcake. In more recent years, I've had very tasty fruitcakes .. home-made, as well as those from the Franciscan Monks.

It is not "fruitcake", but, I LOVE Jamaican black cake, made with rum 😋 (though I don't drink rum).

I haven't notice any fruitcakes or anything similar in Walmart or local grocery stores.
I’ve seen Claxton fruitcake bars but they are about $12.00/12 ounces.
