Not much variety this year in Christmas TV shows

It seems some stations are just running a few Christmas-themed movies over and over. How many times do you have to see "Elf", "Christmas with the Kranks", "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", and "The Polar Express". Not that these aren't good holiday films, but it's the frequency of airing. It seemed in previous years there was more variety. Where is "White Christmas", "Miracle on 34th Street", "It's a Wonderful Life" or any version of "A Christmas Carol"? Of course I don't have access to many cable stations having basic cable.

This is why I have a fairly small collection of Christmas classics on DVD and Blue Ray discs...about a half-dozen of my favorites.

I used to have all those movies on VCR tapes, but eventually all my players broke, then the flood in August ruined what I had stored in the cellar.
You should send a letter to Santa.

For reals, though, you can buy used DVDs and VHS tapes, and the players are pretty cheap these days. I only paid around $40 for my DVD/Blue Ray player (on Amazon, I think). And places like Walmart and Target have bins full of bargain-priced Christmas classics this time of year. Some major pharmacies do, too....Walgreens, CVS, RiteAid, etc.

Watched The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024) last night. It was what I was looking for in terms of a charming Christmas story. But it's wholesomeness was a little too heavy. It's a good family picture, but I think mostly kids would enjoy it.

I was about to take a shot at A Merry Scottish Christmas (2023), until I read the reviews. Himmm. Well, I'll keep looking. They sure don't make 'em like they used to!

Well, if you're feeling on the Grinchy side this year perhaps some sarcastic humor is more your speed.

Even the lead-in short is eerie, but the mail feature Whizzo the Clown takes the cake. Plus you can watch as much or as little as you can stand. There is no story conclusion to miss out on.

One of those is-it-a-Christmas-movie-or-isn't-it kind of movies I like to watch this time of year is The Family Man (Nicolas Cage, Tea Leoni; 2000; 2 hr., 5 min.). I have it on dvd, so I don't know how available it is to stream; really good if you can find it.

YES!!! "The Family Man" is one of my all time favorite movies; Christmas or anytime.

Pony up for some premium channels and you'll get a wider variety of entertainment delivered to your home. You don't spend money on expensive meals out, in-home help like cleaning people, jewelry, clothes or impulse shopping. Why not spend a little on entertainment options? What are you saving it for, Deb?

They have run Trading Places a couple of times after not airing it for years it seemed.

I don't know but it seems I can always watch a part of Christmas Vacation every time it's on.

There is an event here just before Thanksgiving to avoid the snow, but by February they've cut together a "program" for those who didn't make it in person. Electric parade, marching bands, drone art display, fireworks, etc. Here is 2023:

These local events feel more meaningful, especially if you have family or friends involved.
