Then the debt will be written off, unless someone co-signed for you.I have no home, car, property or other tangible assets.
My credit is already shot and I never answer phone calls. If you make minimum payments each month as required ... well, you're doing all that's required.
If you make no more payments, expect lots of phone calls from people wishing to discuss that with you.
Also expect that you may never be granted any form of credit going forward or credit at very high interest rates.

Check on the statue of limitation on debt in your state. There are various laws concerning debt, A person l know owes an homologous amount on a credit card but hasn't paid anything on it for 10 years and though she still owes the debt creditors can't go after her In a nasty way. she still owes and affects her ability to obtain additional credit. Check with an attorney please. You can probably find free or low cost help,I am 78 widowed and owe $15,000 in credit card debt. I have NO assets. My only income is SS and PERS totaling $3,300 per month. So what can the CC folks do if ..

She should talk to a legal expert first.I agree with @MACKTEXAS and will add that you might start with talking to the credit card issuing financial institutions to see what can be worked out. Monday would be a good time to start.

I read about a man who's social security was withheld because he didn't pay a hotel bill...seriously! It didn't happen immediately though. I don't know why or how they were able to jam him up like that nor how common (or uncommon) such an extreme action is. That may be something you'd want to check with the social security office about.Cool! I have no co-signers promissory notes etc. So they can't attach my Social Security or PERS?
