Anyone Here Paid Cash-on-the-Barrelhead for Shingles Vaccine?

My husband and I each paid $250 for our first shingles vaccines. We were only 50 and our insurance wouldn’t cover them at that age. However, insurance paid for the new two dose vaccines a couple of years ago. They were more painful and caused more side effects, btw.
 
I paid about $280 for my first shingles shot. But, that and two other short term prescriptions filled the deductible bucket and the second one was $20. Having seen my relatives who had shingles, I don’t resent the $300 total one bit. If I had that kind of pain and discomfort, I would gladly pay $1000 to get rid of it.

In Ontario, the shingles vaccine is free for seniors between the ages of 65 and 70 who meet certain criteria:
  • They must not have received a publicly funded shingles vaccine or paid for a dose of the Zostavax® II vaccine
  • They must not have any allergies to the vaccine ingredients
  • They must not have a severe acute illness or symptoms of an acute respiratory infection

Free t o everyone over 65 in Australia - although I should have clarified, people who had funded Zostavax have to wait 5 years for funded Shingrix

and of course anyone allergic to any ingredient or acutely unwell does not have it - but that goes for all vaccines
 
I don't have Medicare Part D, and I buy my meds from Canada, so I paid out of pocket for the two shingles vaxes. They aren't cheap, but I saved well over a hundred dollars at Costco. Frankly I doubt that I would get a case of shingles, but I got the shots anyway. I can afford it, and who needs a case of shingles?
