A few observations by Bretrick

2 days ago, as I was leaving my unit to go places I came across a lady who was not a resident, walking around the property with no real intent.
My first thought was she is casing the place. By the timeI had got to my car and exited the property, the lady was 50 meters down the road. She obviously scarpered rather rapidly after seeing me. I drove passed her at idle speed, all the time looking at her. Simply to let her know I am aware of her unlawful? presence on said property.
When I return 5 hours later, there she is, a block away from my property, pulling a 4 wheel trolley.
There were also 3 young children with her, around the age of 5.
Looked to me that she was going around the neighbourhood seeing what was readily to be placed in the trolley.
My nearest semi large shopping centre, Morley Galleria has a food court with up to 20 food outlets.
Well there used to be 20 food outlets on the first level. Now there are 2.
6 months ago most of the outlets closed down. As well as all the specialty stores on the first level.
When I asked the customer service people why have most of the outlets closed the response was, "Their leases have expired and management are going to do wholesale renovations.
My response was, “It has already been 6 months and no work has begun, going to be a long time before Galleria is somewhere that people will want to come to”.
She did say it would be at least another 12 months before anything reopens.
My next statement was, "That seems really a strange way to operate a business, closing everything down at once, leaving the place looking empty. Why have the two remaining food outlets not being renovated at the same time?
“Their lease has not expired”
“So are all the original tenants coming back”?
“No, some of them do not want to”
“Management must have raised their rents making it unviable”
“No, that is not the case”

My Mitsubishi ASX is in for a 60,000km service today. Original price - with air conditioning service was $538.
They rang me and said two filters not covered under the service need replacing.
Total cost will come to $648.

When I collect my vehicle I am driving out to New Norcia, which is 120 km north of Perth.
This is where hundreds of Little Corellas, Galahs and Ring Necked Parrots reside.
I hope to video them at dusk, when they all congregate in the surrounds of the Benedictine Monastery.

The Perth Cup (horse racing) will take place on New Years Day.
My tips are
1 - Let’s Galahvant (10/1)
2 - Currimundi (40/1)
15 - Sentimental Hero (5/1)

Suspicious activities from non-residents, the disappointment of your nearest mall closing (at least for awhile) - repairs needed to your SUV. None of that was too pleasant - especially the $648 expense.

At least you have something to look forward to - the trip to New Norcia to video the birds. Best wishes for that, and Happy New Year. :)

Sorry about those unpleasant difficulties,

But oh, how great to be able to view those wild birds!

Tell us all about that excursion,
in seperate thread in outdoors nature section perhaps?

Our number one issue in moving here was crime rate. Having lived in Oakland and San Francisco I know something about crime. The first place I lived as a kid was an Oakland one block cul de sac. Every family on the block was Jewish except us. Zero crime if you don‘t count the bookie next door. Back there a few years ago. No longer Jewish and I doubt English was spoken on the block.

Yes, I can certainly understand your feelings on cities like you mentioned. I used to live in Dallas, and the neighborhood deteriorated as the homes got older, then crime went up, so we had to move.

My job sometimes took me out to the Houston area. Was swept away by the housing in Sugarland and considered moving there, but my work kept me in the Bay Area. Here is an interesting web site that evaluates housing on a number of counts, including crime…

my overal view in life is that the human race atm is getting worse and worse - not everyone of course including me - but we don't seem to be holding "the peace of life" that well? show me were life is getting better for example?

How surprising that you mentioned Sugar Land because I have a cousin who lives there. She likes it, but is often getting bad weather when gulf storms move in. I'm in central Texas, so we're seldom hit too strong by those. I seriously doubt I would ever move at this point in my life.

I was blown away by the veritable mansions at a price that was a fraction of what you would pay for something similar in the area of California where I lived. BTW we now have relatives who live in the San Antonio area - maybe better weather up there?

San Antonio is (I think) the best tourist attraction city in the State. Hope you can go see the relatives you have there. You won't run out of anything to do, and no, they don't get a lot of the bad storms like further south.
