I miss him, he took great pride in making a fire. Made the whole place more of a home. I don't keep firewood anymore. That first winter alone, I tried but I did not care for the new friends hiding there. Just occurred to me, I can turn on the gas thingy for ambience. I need to have one of those gas log things installed.

Gas fireplaces are very nice, Blessed. Not only do you not have to worry about wood and its hitchhikers, but there's no clean-up, no smoke, and the flame is adjustable.

Yes, I just looked and they are only a few hundred. I don't think it would cost too much to have it installed. Why not be able to enjoy it. Added to the list. I have a few things I want to get for the house in January. I am afraid of the tariff talk. Not only the prices but the worry appliances might be hard to come by.

The installer will find out where the gas line nearest your fireplace is. The closer it is, the less floor he'll have to open up, and the less labor it'll cost you.

I'm confident the US and Canada will come to a mutually advantageous agreement very soon. The US is only asking Canada to be more proactive at keeping our neighboring border secure, and Canada can do that.

The gas is already ran to the fireplace. There is a burner thing in there all the way across that would get the wood going good, then he would turn off the gas. Just add wood as needed, and you know, stir and poke at it occasionally.

SO replaced ours in December. The works including thermostat and logs was around $300. Lowe's was the least expensive. Amazon was a bust. Probably trip fare and about an hour for an installer.
