Anyone remember who this fellow was?

I think my chosen career of medical technician was influenced by Mr. Herbert.
I was thinking the same thing about my interest in science. He made learning about how things happen interesting. Later in school, I was drawn to science in a way that other subjects did not affect me. Watching Superman beat up bank robbers was exciting. Science is not like that. It's more satisfying than exciting, and more enduring.

I wouldn't have had the faintest idea who he is or was. When I saw the photo earlier today, my initial thought was that he might be some kind of educator -- someone I think I could have warmed to.

When I first saw the photo in the OP, one thing that stuck in my mind was, I don't think I would want him anywhere near my birthday cake.

I wanted that. I asked for that. I was given a doll.
Pepper was pigeon-holed!

That happened a lot back in the 50s and 60s. I remember a Christmas when me and my brothers all got new fishing poles, and Bonnie got all upset because she didn't get one. My parents were convinced it was only because she didn't get what we all got, and not because she liked fishing.

They were wrong.

I wanted an Invisible Man, the clear guy with all the organs you put into their proper place in him like a human body puzzle. Wonder of wonders, I actually got him.
