Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW): What You Need to Know

And for anyone who doesn't want to click a link, part of the site says this:

"Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW) is a distinct faction of the “manosphere,” the broad set of male supremacist, anti-feminist, misogynist and sometimes violent extremist movements that exist largely online."

What would have the supporters of this cr@p said if a woman had started a thread on hating men?
Serious question here... did the men in the forum who seem to be supporting this movement actually take time to look up what the organization stands for? It's a lot more than "I want to spend the rest of my life alone and don't need a woman."

I had one of those types around two years ago. She came over and sat around like a princess wanting me to cater to her. The final straw was when she wanted to use my landline phone. I'm sitting farther away from the phone than she was. She wanted me to get it up, cross the room and hand it to her......All she had to do was reach over and pick it up. I ended up reaching for her coat. She had to go.........and she still tries to call....lol
Well done, Eagle! (y)

This is so true! I've actually had other women get mad at me for refusing to join in their male bashing. They've even said but you're divorced. You should understand. To my icy, I'm not stupid enough to think all men are like my ex-husband, gasps and paling and, well, pretty much how can you say that. Because I'm not an idiot. That's how.
Bravo! I've known men who have "sworn off" women and if I reply, "They're all bad" he might say something like "Some day you'll see!" but I've never met one who got angry with me for saying it.

Thank you for posting this, @CallMeKate. I have found the recent misogyny on this sub extremely disturbing. I've logged out a few times, vowing to not return and yet I have, because the majority of the people on this forum seem decent and kind.

Yep, and there are plenty of other sites with similar definitions.

So then what is the "proper" term for men who have chosen to focus on living by going their own way?
Why would you need "a term?" Choosing to focus on living by going your own way is perfectly normal... why the desire to justify it with a label or connection to an extremist group? Just do it... just live as a single man who doesn't need a woman.

Some people won't agree, but it takes a Mom & Dad to raise a kid in a home. We see what happens to kids that make the news & you find they come from a single parent household where, usually the father, wasn't ever there except for insemination. These kids grow up lacking a good male role model & look for that role model in the wrong places with the wrong people. I blame the female for this just as much, but they are just emulating what they grew up with. Very sad cycle that seems never ending.

That's an overgeneralization. Plenty of good people were raised in single parent homes (parents of either gender) and far outnumber the bad.

In high school, I was actually friends with a kid who snapped and shot up our school (back in 1975, fortunately, he didn't hurt anyone). His parents were still married, he went to the same church as my divorced mother took us to. I could get into the reasons I think are truly behind his mental breakdown (seriously this boy of 15 couldn't even bag a deer and yet...)

How about we not overgeneralize? Thank you.

It wasn't meant or intended as a generalization. I didn't say ALL single parent households produce problem kids. There are various reasons for single-parent households, some by choice & others not. My point was when kids that aren't raised with a good male role model in their lives who can teach them right from wrong & show them love, those are the kids whose lives can end up pretty dam bad.

Ok, I can see how this deserves a spot on the current "special" identity anacronym. M=MGTOW :)

The current acronym has evolved to be 2SLGBTQIAM+, which stands for:
  • 2S: Two-Spirit (acknowledging Indigenous identities)
  • L: Lesbian
  • G: Gay
  • B: Bisexual
  • T: Transgender
  • Q: Queer or Questioning
  • I: Intersex
  • A: Asexual or Allies
  • M: Mgtow
  • +: Representing additional identities not explicitly listed
