When I woke up this morning I got the following notice to my shock and dismau.
"this thread has been removed because it is hate speech"

All the comments I saw yesterday were not hateful; yes some were critical but not hateful
Actually I think the conversations may well have fostered understanding.

I do not know how or who deleted the thread.
O well a lot of good was achieved.

The thread had run all yesterday and had hundreds of comments.
I hope whoever can remove a thread cannot do so solely based on personal bias.

@OregonGuy
I can't answer your questions.
It's apparent that the thread in question was unpalatable either to sensitivities here or potentially to Go ogle reviews. This forum is private property so it's neither democratic nor obliged to allow freedom of speech.

That begs the question of why were individual posts not removed rather than shutting down the thread.
It was my first experience to see this happen, so I'm not clear on how it all works. I only became a member around the middle of November.

I don't know what thread it was, but the rules are NO politics... if @Matrix can tell which political party you support, by your posts then that is a No go....he's said this in the past..

The other thing is personal attacks, he won't accept those either..that's attacks on posters and of course admin. and also anything that promote hate speech ..racism etc...

All in all he's very hands off, unless he's pushed into being unable to ignore something..

the forum is owned and run by @Matrix ... and the final decision is always his.. as it should be..

Matrix... deleted one of my threads and put me in timeout for 3 days for posting something political. I thought the entire thread was political but I was the only one that got jailed. However, as was mentioned above, if Matrix owns and runs the site he gets to make the rules.

yes but no-one should be having to defend anyone here.. because in the first instance no-one should be attacking anyone's family, orientation, creed, colour or religion...
It's often been said that when the ad hominem attacks begin it means that person has given up on an honest, factual, discussion. It's a true sign of weakness.

I find Matrix lets a thread run it's course for quite some time then just kills it out of the blue. See that movie before.

I agree politics and hate speach should not be allowed. I would also add religion to the no no list.
IMO none of the comments crossed those lines.

There is a danger of someone trying to get threads removed by ranting (e.g. if the thread was about deer and someone went off on the NRA killing Bambi) In that case the responded comment, NOT the thread itself should be removed.
